Sopranos: 4/2 (Open Spoilers)

I don’t think he even remembers it. He just said that as he was coming out of the coma he was being pulled toward something, but he didn’t want to go. Unless it get’s revisited, I doubt we’ll ever know.

I’m trying to figure out who may have left that quote in his room. T was convinced it was Janice, but I don’t think it was.

The Woman was Hesh’s Wife.
Many Orthodox Jews see the Fundies aiding Israel and mistake it for Friendship. Hesh is wise enough to know that the Fundies have their own agenda and are only temporary friends of convenience.

BTW: I have the dinosaur book Carmela got Tony, I bought it for my kids.

I wonder if that Quote is a McGuffin and we’ll never know where it came from, but will see it again.

Jim

Poor Barone kid. The guy had no clue about the ‘business’. Now he’s being hit up by Paulie for 4k a month, for a ski instructor? Yikes! Looks like mom is going to be getting even less of the money from the sale!

Though, of course, it could be a piece of the puzzle showing Paulie’s sliding to the point where’s gotta get wacked. There was the sad look on giving Carmella the money, the way he flipped out after his found out about his mother, now this. Not good.

IANADrugAddict - But I took Chrissie’s response as a reflection of the time he’s spent in NA/AA. In his recovery from addiction, I imagine he’s been constantly told how much signifigance life really has and how important you are as an individual in the larger scheme of things. What Tony said to him basically ran counter to everything he’s been using to keep himself sober, which leads him to politely disagree w/ the statement.

Incorrect. That was Hesh’s daughter. Her husband was beaten almost to death by one of Philly’s boys due to a misunderstanding in the first episode of this season. Tony asked her how he was doing when she first walked into the room.

Oh, good catch, my mistake then. Sorry.

Jim

I would combine that with the fact that it’s Chrissy and he’s just not all that…deep.

The preview showed Tony delivering a beating on somebody, in what looks like the back room of the Bing.

My guess is, that somebody is Paulie, right after Tony finds out what Paulie did.

I think the quote was from Christopher. I’m pretty sure he quoted Ojibwa indians in a recent episode.

Anyone else notice that the Barone kid and Meadow shared a moment when they met?

Chris was the first one to ‘notice’ it and give it that ‘what the fuck does this mean’ look.

Right now it’s up in the air who tacked the Ojibwa saying on the wall. With Tony leaving the hospital I wonder if we will ever know. Maybe it was the Chechinian left in the woods by Paulie and Christopha.

Y’now I think Paulie is going to be OK. Even if Tony finds out about him shaking down the Barone kid he will be fine. Just a gut feel.

I hope to hell Tony doesn’t join the witness protection plan and become this Finnerty guy who sells heaters. That’d be a bummer for an ending. Otherwise, what was all that about?

What got me most about this ep was that kid who inherited the garbage business. Don’t they have any police in New Jersey? I would think, if you’re not a guy raised in this world – if you have nothing to hide and none of these pieces of shit has any particular leverage over you other than muscle and gun – then when they try to shake you down, the first thing you do is immediately report the entire incident in great detail to the police, state attorney’s office and FBI. Especially if you’re in a position to aid their inquiries by throwing open that books of a business suspected of mob ties. Especially if, like this kid, you know Pauli Walnuts’ name and address. See, once you do that, and let Pauli know you’ve done it – your personal safety now becomes his personal problem; because now there’s an incident report with your name on it and his, and if anything at all happens to you, the authorities will be coming after Pauli. Even if it’s one of the New York guys who actually does it. Anybody with any sense could figure all this out.

Tough call, I don’t know how true it is but it seems like so many Mafia witnesses end up dead, that you might be afraid. The kid was sheltered from the Family Business, but he is still Italian-American and probably has a healthy fear of the Mafia. Besides his Mom could have an accident and he is probably going to be fearful of that.
I would like to think I would go to the FBI if I was shaken down and I hope I am never in such a situation, but the implied threat of violence against my family might make me give into the demands.
I actually turned down a job about 10 years ago because the rumors were that the place was Mob owned. I didn’t want to have anything to do with the Finacial Systems (computer-wise) of such a company. It has always seem prudent to steer completely clear of have any dealings with the mob.

Jim

See, now I thought it was from Schwinn. I wonder if we’ll see him again. I don’t think we know who wrote it, though. Janice flat-out denied it was her, didn’t she? I was so glad Tony didn’t fall for that religious crap either. That would be way too pat of a response to his injury.

My feeling from this episode is that Tony wants to leave The Life. The whole thing with Eugene Pontecorvo foreshadowed that, as did the Kevin Finnerty thing. When he found out he could get money from the garbage biz without taking a skim, he went for it. Of course, the quote is, “Once you enter this family, there’s no getting out,” so I have no idea where this is going for Tony. Probably nowhere where he can build a spec house.

I talked to Turk Pipkin (the guy that plays the narcoleptic ex-boyfriend) for a brief moment a couple of weeks ago- I had heard that he was back in this season. He was completely closed-lipped (just like they say in those behind-the-scenes promos on HBO).

I was rewatching the episode (mercifully free of storms) and noticed something – the color orange. I noticed this in the last episode as well, with the hideous orange shirt Sil was wearing, and other characters wearing orange. I don’t think I’ve EVER seen that much orange clothing since the 70’s. Either my TV is messed up, or they are trying to tell us something.

Orange is the color of hazards – of danger lurking, i.e. “orange cones on street = huge pothole.” Could this be couture foreshadowing.

OK, I’ll go away now. I think about this stuff WAY too much.

I didn’t notice the orange myself, but I think it’s more likely they were foreshadowing danger with a nod to the Godfather films. Oranges are repeatedly associated with death in those movies.
