Sorting Out the Matrix

Ok, I have just seen the Matrix Revolutions, and I have been reading what people have to say about the film, and I started thinking, what the hell happened?

So I ask the the teeming millions help me out by starting from the very beginning of the trilogy and sorting out everything. I have seen all three movies, but I am in agreement with just about everyone when they say that the third movie didn’t answer anything from the second. Help me figure out what everything meant. It is a large task, but judging from some of the other conversations, we can do this.

I welcome all definitive answers and random postulations, but I discourage opinions on what people thought of the movies from a critical standpoint.

Hmm…I think I would use quicksort.

I read all of those threads, and it didn’t do a damn thing for me, since the reloaded thread was all speculation that mostly turned out to be wrong. And I know what happened in the final installment, but it would be nice to put all three together now that we all saw it.
