Sounds of ambience. Reccomendations wanted.

Long story short - I shut my window in the morning to drown unwanted sounds. This also drowns out the sounds beneficial to peacefulness (the gentle whisper of wind on trees, the occasional hum of rain)
Can anyone reccomend a CD/mp3 site/anyhing at all/ that contains convincing soundtracks of peacefull ambiance?

They don’t have to be tunefull. Anything will do. A sea lapping ashore, wind caressing trees. Anything like that.

Lou Reed’s “Metal Machine Music” should fix you right up.

They sell white noise machines, many of which have (artificially generated) nature sounds as well. There was a thread in GQ about a month ago.

Dan Gibson, a Canadian natural sound recordist, has had a whole series of environmental recordings since the 1970s. A canoe paddling down a river, the sounds of the forest, you name it. I would think they’re still in print and available on the web.

I have one of those white noise machines. It has a variety of choices: ocean waves, crickets chirping, heartbeat ( creepy), white noise and rainfall.

I cannot live without it on when I sleep. I take it camping with me. It must seem odd to the other campers when they hear rainfall inside our tent at night.

Another option you can try is a fan. That is a great white noise generator to cover outside annoyances.
