Source of a line

From Psych episode:

Shawn Spencer: [introducing himself] Abe Froman, Sausage King of Chicago!

Shawn Spencer: Abigail Lytar.

Abigail Lytar: [turns, sees Shawn’s picture name tag] Judd Nelson.

Shawn Spencer: In the flesh.

Abigail Lytar: I loved you in, um…“From the Hip”?

Shawn Spencer: Thank you very much. You know, there are those who believe I flared my nostrils too much in that film.

Abigail Lytar: Oh, no. I mean, how else could we have possibly known how angst-ridden you were?

You all are awesome! (Not very helpful yet, but definitely awesome.)

It was something I heard in the past month or two — possibly in the past two or three weeks. So it’s a current show, not Entourage. Also not animated, not by McFarlane, and not Psych. And it was an onscreen line delivered by and to actors who aren’t Molly Ringwald, not something said to Ms. Ringwald herself in private.

I’m increasingly coming to think it was a TV show and not a movie, but I could be wrong.

The best bets so far seem to be Community, How I Met Your Mother, and New Girl.

Sorry to muddy the waters, but could it have been an episode of Go On?

They did an episode with at least a couple of Sixteen Candles references (ep 17 “Ring and a Miss”).
Hulu indicates that it is available on Hulu Plus, but I’ve no subscription, and can’t verify if this is the source we seek.

Mrs. Neutrality and I also think this line is familiar, and our first thought was Psych. We also watch Community, but not really any of the other shows mentioned in the thread (regularly, anyway). Our money is now on Go On.

Until it’s not.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I’m wondering if this is going to become the new “It doesn’t do anything.”

This clicked something for me. There’s an episode where Jess starts hanging out with the hipster college neighbors and starts pretending she made up 80s sitcom quotes. Might be from that one.

I’m positive I heard this within the week. I think I might have smiled at it (being about the same age as Molly Ringwald and seeing a lot of the movies when they were new). Unfortunately, I usually am doing other things with the TV on in the background. I could have sworn it was from the Psych episode about the high school reunion that was full of John Hughes references, but maybe not. There was a Psych mini-marathon on. Maybe another episode?

I do watch Family Guy, American Dad, and occasionally How I Met Your Mother and have seen episodes all in the last few days. Haven’t seen New Girl, Community, or Go On, so maybe HIMYM?

Maybe you saw a rerun?

Sounds like he’s seen the same thing you have, but that was posted in 2009.

Thank You! And I see some others have now acknowledged that whether or not it IS from Psych, it at the very least SOUNDS like it could have.

Isn’t there a line from Family Guy where Peter says, “I want xxx Katherine Hepburn, not Golden Pond head on a spring Katherine Hepburn”?

Found it.

From here.

Peter: “Do that Katherine Hepburn impression for me. And Philadelphia Story Hepburn, not that head-on-a-slinky Golden Pond stuff.”
