What’s the source of the Internet phenom/
kind of insipid/
incredibly inspiration poemy thing “Dream Big” – a modern-day standard of graduation speeches and inspirational blog moments?
I quote a chunk of the sucker below …
Some admirers of the poem credit it to the ever-prolific “Anon.”
Others credit it to a 1991 Macintosh ad – which I vaguely remember. It certainly sounds like ad copy to me. And the piece’s insistence that with “the right tools/You can do great things” certainly sounds like a hint-hint, buy-a-Mac moment.
My question, though, is if the Macintosh advertising crew wrote the thing … or if they found it someplace…
Again, I think they wrote it … but when I say that everything, everyone thinks I’m just trying to be mean … which I am, but I’d rather be mean and right at the same time …
I’m looking for a stake of fact to drive through the heart of this thing. (Or alternatively, I think credit should go to the crafters of a brilliant piece of viral marketing – although it has kinda left the actual product advertised behind …)
THANKS!
B]Dream Big**
If ever there were a time to dare,
to make a difference,
to embark on something worth doing,
it is now.
Not for some grand cause, necessarily,
but for something that tugs at your heart
something that is your aspiration
Something that’s your dream
You owe it to yourself
to make each day here count.
Have fun.
Dig deep.
Stretch.
Dream big.
