A “live oak” is the common name for a specific variety of oak. Unlike most oaks, this one is an evergreen. You can see where the name might have come from. Oh, and we don’t have 'em in TN, AFAIK. It’s a Deep South thing.
It’s another species of oak tree, as opposed to red oak, white oak, post oak, pin oak, etc.
And thanks to TN*hippiefor rurnt. You also say this about a dog or child who is spoiled by attention. “His mama has done rurnt him with all that lovin’.”
Another good expression I remembered is one I heard from an old contractor who was removing some tile flooring which had been installed over a levelling course of concrete. I asked him how thick the levelling course was and he replied that it was in there “Thicker than cat fur.”
