SPAM'n'eggs

We ran out of bacon a couple of weeks ago. I buy 6-pound packages from Cash & Carry, and I have to make a ‘special trip’ or combine it with other stops when I go to town 25 miles away. We had breakfast sausages last week, which was a nice change. This morning… SPAM[sup]®[/sup]!

I can’t remember the last time I ate fried SPAM[sup]®[/sup]. The SO isn’t too keen on it in any variety; and when I do eat it, it’s SPAM[sup]®[/sup] salad sandwiches or SPAM[sup]®[/sup] musubi. But lacking breakfast meat this morning, I grated some potatoes, rinsed them, squeezed them, soaked them, rinsed them, squeezed them, and dried them, cut a tin of SPAM[sup]®[/sup] into eight pieces and fried four of them, and fried four eggs in butter, over-easy. It was a nice change. Even using the 25% less sodium variety, they were plenty salty. Must be the frying.

Must …not…click…report.

Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spammity-spam!

You got a keeper there.

We had spam all the time when I was a kid. Being a kid, I didn’t know any better. Even though it was the late 50s/early 60s, I think my parents were still more or less stuck in the 40s of WWII. Can’t say I ever had it since or ever had a desire to have it.

How is that you even have it your pantry?

Spam is good eating. Every once in a while my daughter and I use it to make Fallout NV caravan lunches.

I like it!

You really should try SPAM salad sandwiches (ground SPAM, Miracle Whip, sweet pickle relish) on soft white bread.

I eat a lot of ham-- ham and eggs. What’s the advantage of SPAM over ham?

I like SPAM too and always try to keep a couple cans on hand. One of my favorite SPAM n eggs thing to do is chop the spam into cubes and fry it partway, mix up some eggs with chopped onions, green peppers and a bit of milk, and then pour that over the SPAM and scramble it all together. Heaven!

Spameled eggs with sourdough toast or biscuits is a good breakfast. Add a couple of mugs of hot Irish Breakfast tea and you’ve got a winner.

If I am walking past the SPAM in the supermarket and it happens to be hugely reduced (which seems to happen once or twice a year), I buy a couple of cans of SPAM® Hot and Spicy. What genius, SPAM with built in Tabasco! For the next week breakfast is sliced SPAM on white bread. The only other thing I eat on plain white bread is Vegemite.

Craving update…going shopping now. Thanks a lot** Johnny L.A.**

Man, now I want one of my dad’s Spam Denver omelets. It’s been 30 years…

They’re friggin’ CRAZY about Spam in Hawaii. It’s on the menu in lots of restaurants. I heard it’s a holdover from WWI. And they do make it good there too. I still have fond memories of Spamburgers.

SPAM! BURN IT WITH FIRE!

No, really. Cook it on a temp that’s a bit too hot, so you get a little black on the edges. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

ETA: I’ve had spam sushi more than once. Tasty.

And of course, I meant WWII. :o

The last time I was in Hawaii, which was years ago, McDonald’s had spam with their breakfasts.

I have never eaten Spam.

I bet that goes down good with some Sunset Sarsaparilla. Do you eat it with mashed potatoes and baked beans?

I’ve used Spam to make fair-to-middlin’ breakfast hash before. I won’t say I love Spam, but my favorite use is to make it into an ersatz patty melt or Reuben sandwich (after frying the slice into a crisp.)

Count me as a Spam fan. Fried with eggs, chopped up in beans, it’s all good. I always keep a few cans in the pantry for when the craving strikes.

Just put Spam on the shopping list.

Spam burritos. Mmmmmmmm
