Lucy Lawless?
Assuming she bathed at least the day before?
Oh heck yeah!
If Renee O’Connor joins the show & you ask the same question~
I’ll be there even quicker than with Lucy!

The second episode is also now available on Netflix streaming. I wonder if they’re going to distribute the whole show that way? I’m watching and enjoying it but you will not catch me making any sort of glowing reviews. I just like to support full frontal nudity on television out of principle. It is guilty-pleasure eye candy just like Legend of the Seeker (another online-distributed show that also happens to be produced by Lucy Lawless’ husband Robert Tapert who produces Spartacus) except where Seeker has an unfortunate lack of overt sexuality, Spartacus is all about sex for sex’s sake.
You mean it’s even worse??? One minute ago I was not aware it existed. Why did you have to ruin my ignorance?

Hello. My name is Cookies, and I’m still watching this show as fast as the new episodes become available on Netflix.
The second season has been delayed because the lead has cancer
I’m watching. The comic-bookiness of it is incredibly lame, mostly due to the fact that comic books in and of themselves are lame. And I try not to think of HBO’s Rome too much while I watch because Spartacus: Blood & Sand is pathetic in the extreme if you compare it to the relative masterpiece that was Rome.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed a few plot elements, though. As an objective observer I found the treatment of the gay relationship noteworthy for how not noteworthy it was to the rest of the characters. So kudos for that.
My favorite thing about Spartacus is that shit happens. I was already inwardly groaning about the overarching plot before the season even began, about how tiresome it would get having him pine after his wife for ever and ever and ever, especially if it somehow got renewed for several seasons. To get that bit resolved in the middle of the first season was surprising and refreshing. They could have easily kept delaying the reunion forever, and the cliched technique of dragging shit out annoys the crap out of me. So that was awesome.
It really is a utter crap compared to Rome, but hey, this is Starz, not HBO or Showtime. I’ll cut them some slack and enjoy the boobies.
We like it and the shows have gotten better as the series progresses.
Was also happy to see the wife story resolved, Ellis Dee, as you are right - they could have dragged that out for many seasons to come with her being a slave and then being impregnated by the owner, etc. etc. Good they wrapped that up this season.
Yes, this in no “Rome”, but for what it is, it is fun to watch.
I’m watching it. I thought the first episode was howlingly bad, but it’s surprisingly picked up nicely.
Agreed. It’s gone from “so bad it’s bad” to being suprisingly enjoyable.
It’s also rather educational. I’ve learned that warriors of the Roman era had serious blood pressure issues. Inflict even a pinprick and they spray like a punctured beer keg.
If you want a good show about this time period, I suggest Rome. It’s one of my favorite shows.
In the last episode, Spartacus threw the other gladiator (the one who was raping Barca’s lover) off the cliff next to the training area. Given that they were practicing gladiatorial combat a few yards from this cliff, I wonder why they aren’t accidentally falling all the time. Or perhaps it’s a motivational tool? Retreat too much and you’re dead.
BTW, I was curious about something on the show, so I looked up Spartacus on Wikipedia. Apparently this storyline about Spartacus attending a ludus is historically based.
… and that the women of that era had serious boob containment issues.
I’m still watching, although I’ve gotten behind. The last three episodes are queued up on my DVR. I’m glad to hear they will resolve the wife story soon - it was starting to get old.
I still think the show is pretty bad, but I have a thing for Ancient Rome. And a thing for naked gladiators.
I finally got caught on on the DVR’d episodes. I agree that it is starting to get much much better. Batiatus is turning out to be one cold blooded bastard.
Agreed, and it’s making for some really enjoyable TV. I could probably do without the Crixus/Lucy Lawless/Slave Girl love triangle, but other than that, no complaints here.
Someone came in and replied without reading the thread…
Recorded the first episode - hated the blood splatters so much I stopped half way through and deleted the recording. Did I make a mistake? Do they tone down the blood in later episodes? Do the naked Gladiators make it all worthwhile?
No, and yes.
I finished the series last night- I must admit, I rather enjoyed it. Sure, it was over-the-top, but if you view it just as an animated (very) graphic novel, it succeeds. Parts of it (which I’m not going to spoil) were very emotionally brutal.
I love this show. At first I thought it was so-so, but as it went on I started to enjoy it more.
I’m not really sure why I enjoy it so much.
And that, children, is why not all full-frontal nudity is fun. shudder
Did anyone else notice a marked decrease in picture quality for Episode 8 on Netflix? Different Starz branding montage, and everyone looked either squished from the top or stretched to the side no matter what setting I used on my HDTV.
Agreed. I enjoyed watching it on Netflix. I admit to fast-forwarding some of the fighting, but I did enjoy the intrigues, the rich family being in debt, the revenge, and so on.
