I don’t particularly remember it (I only saw this movie once, some time ago, and I never read the book), but could that be Angela’s Ashes?
No. The young woman in the scene is English. I’ll repeat another hint: the young Englishwoman’s mother died destitute and shunned by her family. Also, the movie and the book upon which it is based are fictitious.
BTW Protesilaus, you were right. NDP 5 is Back to the Future Part II.
I’ll add another:
NDP 6 - An apparent assassin is trapped on the top of the Space Needle.
[whine]NDP, just TELL us![/whine]
The Parallax View
I never heard back from Spoonbender on this one:
Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade (Jahova isn’t spelled with a “J” or something like that)
Still waiting to see some action on these:
snow 1: The movie ends as it begins, with the road blowing up (exploding) under the cars.
(hints are that it’s not Operation:Swordfish? (nice try, though, Cisco) and the movie is based on a true story. In Italy.)
New hint: it involves the Mafia (big surprise.)
snow 2: One robber/hostage taker dies, the other gets to go free courtesy of a pale lizard.
New hint: the movie is set almost entirely in a bar.
Albino Aligator?
Let me float a few, just for the heck of it –
JBATS 1: Two cops who have lost their pants chase a criminal.
JBATS 2: A well trained horse shits on someone’s car.
Re: A well trained horse shits on someone’s car.
Wasn’t that Hooper or some other w/ Burt Reynolds?
Running Scared.
Also, Kawliga is right. NDP 6 is The Parallax View.
As for NDP 1 (i.e., the young English woman washing her mother’s headstone), here are some more hints:
-
the movie is based on a novel by a well-known American author; and
-
it is set in the early part of the 20th century.
Yup. I waffled on giving the “pale lizard” part, but it’s been a while and I couldn’t remember a good, specific, detail.
Variation on JBATS 1:
snow 3: Two cops who have lost their clothes ride a merry-go-round in a playground.
lieu hit it with Hooper and …
NDP is right on with Running Scared.
I guess those were easier than I thought they were. Either that or lieu, NDP and I all watch the same movies.
Men at Work, I think.
NDP 7 - One man on a horse foolishly challenges another man after he says he’s old, fat, and disabled.
Just a WAG, but Gone With the Wind?
True Grit
(Boldness added.)
Kawliga is correct.
NDP 8 - One man kills a cockroach so that he and his friend will be guaranteed to live longer than it.
Back at the start of this thread I posted a scene about a groom putting the ring on his bride’s finger, and I figured it would be guessed. But it hasn’t so I will give another clue. To repeat the original scene:
The wedding guests tense visibly as the groom, a Navy veteran, places the ring on his bride’s finger.
The new clue is that the guy playing the groom died recently and it was in the news. He also won an Oscar for his performance.
The movie is The Best Years of Our Lives and the actor is Harold Russell.
BTW, any guesses on NDP 1 (the English woman washing her mother’s headstone) or NDP 8 (the man killing the cockroach so he and his friend will live longer than it)?
I’ll rephrase NDP 8 to provide more information.
NDP 8 - A prisoner awaiting execution kills a cockroach in order to guarantee that he and another prisoner will still live longer than it.
Yup. That makes two. Good job.
