I thought the same thing, but then somone pointed out that it’s only REALLY promnient when talking to people when he’s in costume. Like it’s an affectation he puts on. Like Peter has a slight accent, but when he’s Spiderman it really is “Hey ah’m walking over heh-ear!”
I know they won’t do this, they will just forget and pretend Jean didn’t kill people… but what if that actually WASN’T Jean… it was …Madelyne Pryor (speculation based on Xmen movie casting)
Who would’ve guessed that people never realized that this powerful psychic was trying to kill people? Imagine someone subtly manipulating everyone’s perception of this powerful psychic. No, it must be that the Good Guys managed to convince this powerful psychic to stand down, for some other reasons not related to the powerful psychic using their powers.

Once you’ve accepted into the story a powerful psychic, every action taken by every character could be under their influence.
Okay, in that case I’ll change my mind and stay living in a world without super powers.
But, hey … I could still be Batman!
(Even if a criminal never killed my father, there’s still a chance I could amass a huge fortune, a multi-national Wayne Enterprises, and of course a stately manor with huge caves underneath).
The TV show Powerless from ten years ago was supposed to be about an insurance company that provided property and liability coverage for superheroes. The business model was scrapped for being too far fetched for even a comic book story.
We had one of those in real life in Seattle for a while.
It was an interesting novelty but didn’t last particularly long, or end particularly well.
Turns out in real life that vigilantism leads to a difficult relationship with law enforcement and the courts, and keeping a secret identity is really hard even if you’re always in a costume when “going on patrol”.
…I think the drug dealing while playing a superhero was the biggest issue.
Youtuber ComicTropes was part of that Seattle super hero group and has some interesting stories.
As far as I can tell, he wasn’t arrested for dealing drugs until the year after he dropped his Phoenix Jones persona. (Stopped in 2019, arrested in 2020.)
