Yeah, that sequence was a riot!
I went in to this movie expecting a comic book movie. And by gawd, I got one! Actually, I felt like it more in tune with the spirit of the comix than the first one. Sure, they added, subtracted, shifted characters and events…, but they sure did get the feel of Spidey down pat.
The pathos of the down and out superhero, not able to have a normal life, was shown excellently.
The comedy touches fit right in, not taking over, but adding needed relief.
“I believe there is a hero in all of us.” The line you already know from the ads.
“But, who’s going to save your life?” The line that made the audience gasp with delight.
“Go get 'em, Tiger.” Yeah, baby!
Okay, the “science” in it was ludicrious, but it is the comix after all. Not really sci-fi, more of a sub genre of fantasy, if you ask me. Even at that, they didn’t mess up with Octo. I mean, like the scenes where he is using his ‘arms’ to do things, it’s all them. Instead of bracing with his legs while lifting something huge, the bottom arms braced for the top arms to do the lifting. And the crazy style of locomotion looked like a machine that just happened to carrying Otto. When you see it, you’ll know what I’m trying to say.
The one thing I didn’t like was the Fortress of Solitude scene with Uncle Obiwan. WTF?
Future movies (yes, plural!) were set up with this one. Not just the end stuff. Look for the doctor/scientist/whatever with the bad arm…
The POV Spidey CGIs were amazing, btw. Throughout the whole movie, the CGI and live action were blended perfectly.
The perfect movie? Hell no.
Great Summer entertainment? Hell yeah!
