Spiderman 2 -{spoilers}-

I bought my tickets a few days ago and am going down to the theatre with some friends in about 30 minutes to get in line for the 12:01am showing.

Anyone already seen it?

No spoiler boxes needed.
I’ll be back at about 2:00am to post my spidey review.
Will this be the Summer Movie Everybody Has To See™?

;j

Just got back from a midnight showing myself.

I haven’t been that entertained at the movies in a very long time! There were quite a few parts that seemed over the top and campy, but deliberately so.

Oh, and the Walking on Sunshine segment with the freeze-frame at the end was shear brilliance.

D’oh! It was Rain Drops are Falling on my Head. I had the wrong song stuck in my head. :smack:

Yeah, that sequence was a riot!
I went in to this movie expecting a comic book movie. And by gawd, I got one! Actually, I felt like it more in tune with the spirit of the comix than the first one. Sure, they added, subtracted, shifted characters and events…, but they sure did get the feel of Spidey down pat.

The pathos of the down and out superhero, not able to have a normal life, was shown excellently.

The comedy touches fit right in, not taking over, but adding needed relief.

“I believe there is a hero in all of us.” The line you already know from the ads.

“But, who’s going to save your life?” The line that made the audience gasp with delight.

“Go get 'em, Tiger.” Yeah, baby!

Okay, the “science” in it was ludicrious, but it is the comix after all. Not really sci-fi, more of a sub genre of fantasy, if you ask me. Even at that, they didn’t mess up with Octo. I mean, like the scenes where he is using his ‘arms’ to do things, it’s all them. Instead of bracing with his legs while lifting something huge, the bottom arms braced for the top arms to do the lifting. And the crazy style of locomotion looked like a machine that just happened to carrying Otto. When you see it, you’ll know what I’m trying to say.

The one thing I didn’t like was the Fortress of Solitude scene with Uncle Obiwan. WTF?

Future movies (yes, plural!) were set up with this one. Not just the end stuff. Look for the doctor/scientist/whatever with the bad arm…

The POV Spidey CGIs were amazing, btw. Throughout the whole movie, the CGI and live action were blended perfectly.

The perfect movie? Hell no.

Great Summer entertainment? Hell yeah!
;j

I was thinking about taking my son to go see this today, but he’s only three. Can anyone give me an opinion on whether it was too intense for a little guy?

Well, there’s some violence, bit no gore. More like the quick moving Jakie Chan fight stuff. There are some incredibly loud noises. There’s some friends being not exactly nice to each other… Plus, the set up stuff may drag a bit for a tyke.

On the plus side, he is Spiderman. Kids love Spidey. In our group we had a couple of 5 yr old boys and an 8 yr old girl. They all loved it. But they are all very in to Spidey.

So, if the child is scared easily, the loud noises may be too intense. But if the kid is a Spidey fan already, I would wager he would enjoy most of it.

Oh yeah, it’s 2hrs 7mins long.

And we applauded at the end.

Saw the midnight showing at the ArclightCinerama Dome. Tobey Maguire said a few words before the movie started (he’s little and kind of dorky in real life). I loved the movie. The opening credits were terrific, it was great to see Bruce Cambell (as the “Snooty Usher”), Sam Raimi did a great job working in kind of campy, old school shoots with the great CGI stuff, and the fight scenes between Spidey and Doc were amazing.

I think this movie is far better than the first one; it’s probably one of the best movies in its genre that I’ve seen.

It more closely captured the sense of Spiderman in my head - connecting the pictures of the comic book into a flow of action - than any comic book movie has captured “my reality” for any comic. High praise and entirely worth it.

Yep, it messed with storyline and characters. Yep the science was laughable. But when Spidey and Doc Ock are fighting - and I am not giving anything away to say that they fight on top of skyscrapers, on a moving train and in building - and they are flailing around, using Ock arms and webbing/wallcrawing powers to right themselves and keep fighting, it was all I could do to stop from cheering. Team Raimi did it!! They unlocked what was in my head!

And the fact that they also get it from a fanboy standpoint and focused on the humanity and responsibility Spiderman struggles with - more points for them.

Great, great movie - so true to the spirit of the comic and the ultimate summer blockbuster.

Now - would I take a 3-year-old to it? Belladonna I honestly wouldn’t - I am not sure if my 6-year-old is ready for it. My 3-year-old freaks out with the big sounds, super-fast action and endangerment this type of movie has. There is no visible blood or rending of body parts, but there is one scene

where Doc Ock first reawakens and stops the doctors from trying to remove his arms

where those things are clearly suggested. My kids would be very freaked out, especially on a big screen with big sound…personally, I’d pass for a kid less than 8 or so…

Can someone spoil the twist ending for me? Thanks. Box it if you must.

Spiderman dies.

No, not really. I guess the twist ending is Mary Jane not marrying Mr NASA and appearing at Spidey’s place in her wedding dress, so they can live happily ever after. Or do they?

lightingtool has the regular ending, but the twist (and it ain’t quite at the very end) is:
Harry Osborn, Peter’s pal and the son of the late Green Goblin, is obsessed with finding Spidey and avenging his father’s death. Eventually, he has Doc Ock bring him to him. He unmasks Spidey, but is too shocked to find that it’s Peter to finish him off before Peter can wake up and break free.

Later he’s still sitting around shocked when he has a vision of his father. Norman scolds him to avenge his death. The conversation/psychotic breakdown ends with Harry throwing a knife through a mirror, and discovering a room full of Green Goblin gear, including the serum. A very elegant setup for the sequel.

We also meet Peter’s one-armed professor, who is the Lizard in the comics, and MJ’s astronaut beau could bring back the Venom symbiote from space.
I loved this movie. One of teh best Superhero flicks ever made and the truest transition (of feel, if not actual plot points and storylines) from comics to the screen that I’ve ever seen.

Ah, razzberries. Little help? Thanks.

Thanks, Menocchio. That was what I had heard hints about. It sounds like they’re setting it up for Harry Osborn to become Hobgoblin.

Isn’t her astronaut beau the Man-Wolf?

Saw the movie, loved it…thought it was a definite improvement on the first one.

It’s marked SPOILERS in the title, no boxes needed.
Yeah, Hobgoblin and Lizard are what I was thinking, too.

Plus, there are now quite a few people who know Parker is Spidey. I think even Aunt Ida knows, 'cause she didn’t scold him for leaving her at the bank and she gave that little speech to him about the world needing heros. Yeah, she knows.

It’s Aunt Mae, just had to get that out of the way. I saw it tonight, gave the subway scene a score of 10 out of 10. I wanted a better fight at the end rather than a conversation to save the day, but it was still good. 4 stars.

Oops! I have an elderly great aunt Ida. (idmb lists her as May. Which spelling is correct?)

The way Peter actually stopped the train was interesting. I don’t recall seeing anything like that before. Unless I just missed. (His web stuff is slightly stretchy, it seems.)

That tall skinny blonde girl from JoA was in it, too. She gave Spidey chocolate cake!

It’s spelled May. And Harry becomes the Green Goblin in the comics. I haven’t read far enough (I’m up to Amazing Spider-Man 212) to get to the Hobgoblin, but if I remember correctly, he’s just some guy who stumbles onto the original GG’s stash of hidden stuff.

I friggin love this movie. It was 10 times what the original was. There was NO CHEESY DIALOGUE, which completely got me. Dumbest romantic line of the first one: “You know, you’re taller than you look.” The CG was pretty easy to pick out in some points (when Doc Oc grabs Mary Jane from the cafe), but this movie was amazing. Hopefully, I’ll be seeing it many more times.

So basically, just like Harry did at the end of this movie! I definitely think he’ll become the Hobgoblin, just because another Green Goblin in the same or similar costume would be boring, and there were some great Spidey/Hobgoblin clashes in the '80s comics.

Maybe astronaut John Jameson can bring the Venom symbiote back from outer space (if he doesn’t become Man-Wolf!). And then we have Dr. Connors becoming the Lizard to look forward to!

Mageina Tovah, I used to hang out with her in high school. Really nice. :>

Awesome movie… possibly the best comic adaptation movie ever.
