Spiderman 2 -{spoilers}-

What are these “books without pictures” of which you speak?

I’ve never liked Venom, but isn’t he the all-black Spider-Man “costume” that Peter found during the secret wars? What did they do? ret-con some outer-space virus origin?

Loved the movie.

I also cast my vote for the Enforcers. I’d love to see Spider-Man having a tussle with Ox and his pals, if nothing else just in passing.

What, no Mysterio fans?

That’s my favourite scene, too, I think.

Nice reference to the Deposition, especially after that cruciform ordeal.

I love that stuff.

I also loved the repeated “rescues” from the weakest people that Spidey had to save. Aunt May, the toddler, the people on the train, Mary Jane – they all snatched him from the jaws of death. Nice meditation on “what is heroism, anyway?”

The mid-1990s cartoon series introduced the Venom costume as hitchhiking aboard a space shuttle, with the same basic results As alternative explanations go, I guess it would be a perfectly acceptable way to introduce Venom in a movie, though I’d greatly prefer they go through the classic villians first, with Lizard and Sandman being my top two.

A couple from church took me and my son tonight.
We had never read a Spiderman comic book, nor heard or seen anything about him.
SO, naturally, we didn’t get any of the references you guys did.

I liked the beginning, with the extra humor, but found it a bit violent for my tastes.

The consensus was that Dunst looks stoned, or just woken up.

In what way? Her eyes constantly searching for meaning? In the comics, Mary Jane reveals to Spider-Man that she’s known for years that Peter is actually Spidey, and that it’s the reason she left New York (and also rejected his initial marriage proposal). This was when Peter was currently dating the Black Cat, who hated looking at Peter without his costume on.

Movie just got here this weekend. Loved it - better than the first in every conceivable way.

One thing I liked a lot was the palpable love the filmmakers seemed to have for New York City, not just the people , but also the man-made topography. I’ve never seen the city’s vast architectural canyons displayed with such joy as in this film.

I was also amused to note that virtually all the action took place either within or on top of pre-War buildings. No International Style or Po-Mo for our Spidey!

She just needs to tape her eyelids to hold them up better.

Mega-thank you for pointing this out! I hadn’t realised it was the same guy at all! Wow. Major respect to Simmons for his versatility.

He was also the leader of the white supremacists in Oz. And the voice of the Peanut M&M in the commercials for the candy.

Guy’s got range.

Rhino comes to mind…
Damn, that fight scene has potential.

Anyways, saw it again tonight and I have a problem with 3 things.

  1. The length of Doc Ock’s “Actuators” as he calls them is visibly changed throughout the movie. Watch them and you will see. They are much shorter in the beginning parts with them, and by the time he goes on a crazy doctor killing spree they somehow increase in length.

  2. When MJ was angry at Peter for being late for the play?
How about: MY FREAKIN BIKE WAS RUN OVER. I ALMOST DIED. WANT PROOF? DON’T BE A BITCH.

  3. When Harry unmasked Peter and said: “You killed my father.”
How about: NO, THE JACKASS ACCIDENTALLY KILLED HIMSELF WHILE TRYING TO KILL ME. HOW NICE OF YOU TO SEEK THE TRUTH AND NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS.

But, Peter Parker totally decides to evade these simple answers and for what cause? They already know his “big” secret. What does he have to lose?

  1. His actuators are able to extend and retract themselves. They’re weakest when stretched to their max.

  2. Completely agree. My guess is that he didn’t tell her for fear of revealing his identity as Spidey. He could’ve easily explained it anyway, but Peter Parker does have tons of faulty logic.

  3. Parker didn’t want Harry to know his dad was the GG. Of course, now that Harry has figured it out, Parker will try to explain. Obviously, Harry’s now insane, so it won’t matter how much Peter tries to explain, but that’s besides the point.

I think they’re supposed to be changing length: he can extend or retract them as needed. IIRC, in the comic books he can retract them completely and hide them under his clothes.

In the scenes between the two of them before Harry unmasks him, it seems clear that Peter had said exactly that in defence of Spiderman, and Harry was determined not to listen to that line of reasoning. And he was probably even less inclined once he finds out that his best friend has been lying to him all along. Anyway, it looks like schizophrenia might run in the Osbourne family, as both father and son are hearing voice and hallucinating encounters with people who don’t exsist, so it’s not entirely Harry’s fault that he’s so unreasonable.

Ah hah, very cool! (same goes to you, Miller)

lol very true :stuck_out_tongue:

Is this true or a joke?

I always stay to the end of the credits, and I didn’t see this. Was this cut for UK distribution? Or is Terrifel making some reference that I don’t understand. (I don’t read Spiderman comics very much)

is joke, comrade.

I thought maybe Harry was suffering from the DT’s - it seemed that every scene Harry was in, he was drinking, and was drunk at the homecoming party and at the end of the movie.

I’m not a doctor, but I believe that delirious tremens involves a lot more physical deterioration before you get to the serious hallucinations. If it had been DT, I think there would have been a lot more sweating, trembling, and vomiting going on.

However, I understand that drug and alcohol use can seriously exacerbate schizophrenia in people who are already subject to the disease, and even trigger its onset prematurely, so the drinking was almost certainly significant to the scene.

Harry was a drug addict in the comics before he became GG2.

This all brings up a very important point:

We need more vomiting in mainstream movies!
