I have no idea that dinosaurs are extinct. I ate one for dinner, and I’m fairly sure it wasn’t the last of its species.

Call me when you succeed in getting that language change through to the average speaker. Meanwhile I’m going to keep using the phrase ‘dinosaurs are extinct’ in those contexts where it would take too long to say 'dinosaurs other than birds are extinct and oh by the way did you know birds are dinosaurs well yes let me explain you see there’s this thing called a clade…" etc etc.

The more important point IMO is the fact that there are not just a few fringe weirdos but plenty of normal everyday people who would have no idea whether the dinosaur represented in the photo in the OP still roams the plain (or whatever) or not.
Not an unsensible approach, but that still doesn’t make post #44 wrong or post #45 correct.
Was that the female? Perhaps it was the male from the ark and the female is still out there … pregnant with who knows how many offspring … deep in the Colombian jungle … ready to mate with the rampaging hippos - the mind boggles!

I agree, for a lizard it’s pretty terrible. I doesn’t even have a prehensile tail or nothing.
