Splitting the Difference--Dead Thread for The Split

He’s in a game at Giraffeboard as well, apparently.

He pitted himself there for being banned at DoMeBo for also creating a sock there. He was banned here because his Seeker moniker is a sock of a previously banned poster “Stage Manager”. Apparently once you’ve been banned on SDMB, the admins insta-ban any socks revealed to be you. Since he admitted who he was over there, and there are people who belong to all 3 boards, word no doubt got back here.

Now that’s a double WTH was he thinking? Maybe he isn’t really a sock, maybe he was pitted himself as one to see what would happen.

Okay, I’ll shut up now.

Oh my god.

He was Stage Manager?

Wow. I did not see that coming.

Weird.

What I meant to say was: Maybe he was pitting himself as a sock because he wanted to see what would happen. My post made no friggin’ sense when I returned to read it.

And I didn’t see that coming either. Okay, I kinda did, in that I figured that there are probably more than a few formerly banned posters hanging around under different usernames.

Also, it looks like they may have figured out the Testerizer. It actually makes a lot of sense, especially given the random variety of colors they’ve been getting. Of course, we have to wait and see what happens with JustinCredible. And even if he does turn out to be a wolf, that’s not guarantee that the Testerizer works by alphabetical order. But right now it looks like that’s the only hing that makes sense.

Hmmm…Stage Manager. The name’s familiar…

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, I had begun to suspect Justin to be a wolf. I was rereading the thread a couple of days ago and noticed how J always seemed to hop into the discussion with a perspective that was the exact opposite of what some other poster was thinking/saying. By that I mean, one poster might write, “I think all the poster who voted for X are probably townies,” and he would reply, “No, there could be wolf hiding among them as well.” He always added a new, confusing meta-layer of possibility to the discussion.

Now, this might just be a function of the way he thinks. But it also strikes me as a pretty good wolf strategy – confusing the townies, complicating the discussion, casting doubt on reasonable hypotheses, and, well, just muddying the water in general, all under the guise of sounding like a concerned citizen.

Oooo…could it be that simple? Alphabetical order? If so, nifty device and kudos to pedescribe. The colors and potential for farmer / rancher alignment detection were excellent red herrings.

If it’s not, and it’s something even more subtle (or obvious), then even MORE kudos unless it’s also impossible to figure out, in which case curse you, pedescribe.

Sorry to intrude,

Ichini Sanshigo, I sent you a PM. Did you receive it?

I need a substitute in the Simpletown game. If anyone is interested, please send me a Private Message.

What the hell? Did Justin just give up? ::blink::

Actually, “sacrificing” himself like that could be seen as a very “pro-town” move, i.e., “they should execute me to discover that Mhaye’s theory about the testorizer is wrong.” Either he’s sincere, or he’s making a last “hail Mary” in the hope of garnering enough sympathy to get the town to change it’s mind. It’s an extreme long shot, but maybe the only chance he’s got; after all, he could really be a townsperson, and Mhaye’s theory about the testorizer could be wrong.

Could be…kinda close to endgame for that kind of play, though.

I dunno, I just do not like that sort of thing. He didn’t even try to mount a feasible defence. That’s not a good way to get sympathy, and either way, he should’ve said something like “well, I’m town, but I really don’t know how I’m going to convince you of that. Please remember tomorrow, though, that it’s MHaye’s theory that sent me to the lynch…”

Huh…I’m…not sure what to think of that.

Of course, you could be right. He might just be throwing in the towel.

Powers that ignite after death? I don’t think so, since pedescribe made it very clear power roles wouldn’t be a huge deal. Okay, on the off chance something happens when he dies, it’s probably not going to affect game play one way or the other, so that seems like a scummy thing for Justin to say. I say lynch him. Even if he’s not a wolf, he isn’t putting in a lot of play effort.

Unless you have a considerably better lynch option, fearing a post-lynch power isn’t worth it. Especially if you don’t have a vig or any obvious way of nullifying it. You’re going to have to bite-the-bullet sooner or later, so for most cases, it’s better to be sooner.

Oh and:

Best. Snark. Ever. (At least for this particular game.)

And the more I see of Telcontar, the less scummy he seems. I found him very scummy in the beginning because his pursuit of Daphne was ridiculous and he couldn’t see how ridiculous it was. The pursuit itself was anti-town, and not alone necessarily a scum tell, but his dogged hold on it came across as scummy. It reeked of newbie scum. But he’s actually greatly improved his play as the game has worn off, and I’m leaning town on him now.

What to make of Justin’s role claim of doctor? And how would a doctor have an activate-on-death power???

I think the activate on death power was what he was referring to when he said he was screwing around…but it’s hard to tell.

A doctor seems like too great of a power rule for this kind of game. I’m doubtful.

I need another sub. Any takers?
