Splitting the Difference--Dead Thread for The Split

Yeah, I’ve seen fluid around in a few other games. Stealth-scum? What a GREAT term…

There’s gotta be at least 2 other scum, though…and I do still wonder what Seeker’s up to.

{rubbing hands in anticipation}

Yow, for someone who’s been dinged - multiple times - for minimalistic posting and a lot of “me-too” and majority rules posts, he sure ain’t changing much.

I predict that ToDay’s lynch will be Seeker
ToMorrow’s will be Telcontar
And then if EH doesn’t change his tactics REAL SOON, he’s gonna be the next one in the noose.

Unless Tel or EH get eaterized. yeah, right.

Thanks! Stealth-scum was my own creation. I think.

Seeker’s whole “Lynch me if you must BUT DONT TEST ME” is so Br’er Rabbit. You know, “toss me in the fire, that’ll be great, throw me in the water, I can swim…just DON’T throw me in the briar patch!” Honestly, the testerizer is such a red herring for now that even if it does break, the town won’t be any worse off. Sans testerizer, it’s a mafia game like any other.

Yeah, I think they got WAY too distracted with the Testerizer early on, and were hoping that it’d be something like an insta-Cop or some such. Obviously it’s not working that way…

I’m curious to see how it tells you anything except what its favorite colors of the day are, frankly. I hope pedescribe Reveals All About The Testerizer when the game is done.

Also, Seeker said this:

That would be…um, a good thing, right? To test a known quantity. Since no one really knows what the Testerizer does, testing a known element would help more.

But also, why does he care about what’s better for all concerned?

ETA: Seeker’s name.

Well, exactly. I can’t understand why Seeker’s trying to imply that “testing a known quantity” (himself) in the Testerizer that nobody understands won’t help town.

Unless…unless it’s a case of “methinks the playah doth protest too much…”

Dang, pedescribe, you got a GREAT game going on here…

HAH! Someone saw it!!! WELL DONE, Jimmy!

{random prediction}
Bet they eat him tonight…

Oooohhhh…that’s gonna piss 'em off. Nothing mafia players hate more than coy hints about “oh I know something YOOOOUUUUU don’t know…but I can’t tell you…but trust me, it’s really really really GOOD.”

About Elendil–do you think he’s just really really busy and thus comes off as quiet, or is he hiding something?

I personally think he’s hiding something. He’s consistently been quiet and very “middle of the pack”.

There’s something I’ve learned from playing these games quite a bit. It’s very simple. When someone is outted, either by self or by a confirmed cop, you ignore everything that person says. Seeker is very clearly NOT town aligned. Why do you think asking him questions is going to help you? He’s not being helpful because he wants to help you, he’s being helpful to fuck with you. The best response to someone claiming wolf is to consider if there’s any reason to disbelieve him(None in this situation. If this were a game with malicious PFKs, maybe.), and then consider for a moment if there’s a reason not to kill him(In a game with more power roles, that do more, maybe. But in a game with minimal power roles, that are not going to have a huge effect on the game? Nope.) So now you’ve established that there’s no reason for him to lie, and no real danger to just taking him out now. What you should do then is vote for him, and move on and start preparing for the next Day, figuring out the next lynch candidate and so on. Talking to him, asking him questions, trying to figure out his motive, all these things will just distract you from the game at hand and will play right into the scums’s hands.

Well this is metagamey as hell, but I know Elendil from the D&D game I play with him, and this is not normal behavior.

I say he is scummier than scum myself.

Odd, though, if he’s really scum, and he’s experienced–wouldn’t he know better than to say so little?

I’m just curious about why Seeker is playing it this way. This can’t possibly be good strategy for anyone. Unless he’s bored and just wants to mix it up and confuse everyone, in which case he succeeded.

You know, this isn’t necessarily scummy. I didn’t want to be too forward about my own suspicions lest I attract unwanted wolf attention and get eaten before I had a chance to really acquire more evidence with my power role, but DaphneBlack pretty much put me on the spot. Just because someone isn’t being very talkative and accusative (especially this early in the game) doesn’t mean that they’re scum.

Which is why you should always be forward and aggressive. If you start trying to hide when you have a power role, the scum will pick up on that and kill you. Which is very probably what happened to you. Scum generally don’t kill the talkative ones in the early game, unless they’re also very good at picking out scum. This is because a lot of people think the way you do, which is “I’m a power role, I must hide, can’t draw attention!” The problem with that is the scum know it too, and will go hunting for people that seem like they’re trying to hide.

True 'nuff, Ichini, but when you’re specifically pointed out as being very untalkative and wishy-washy, and told that it’s not pro-town behavior and you really need to talk more and actually get out there and state suspicions and so on, to continue to be untalkative and wishy-washy, posting very little and when the substance of your posts consists of either defending your untalkative-ness or is a mere “yeah, me too. Voting with the group”…you gotta admit, it’s suspicious.

You said that Daphne put you on the spot - she’s done the same to Elendil, but he hasn’t responded except to say “well, that’s just the way I play, I don’t want to accuse anyone.”

And…they’re on Day 3. This isn’t exactly early anymore. This is potentially the midpoint of the game if they can’t find one Wolf in all their lynchings. Seriously, if they mislynch every day, the game could be over by Day 7. (And yeah, I’ve seen that happen on the mafiascum boards. Not often, tis true. It’s VERY rare. But this is still going into mid-game now.)

“I’m not REALLY a Wolf, I’m REALLY just a Vanilla Farmer!”

Oh for crying out loud…it won’t work. That kind of thing never works.

If he really is a vanilla farmer, that was an absolutely terrible play. If you’re town, being lynched when not at LYLO is fine, but that doesn’t mean you should go out of your way for it. Just all around terrible. I still think he’s lying of course.

Nah. I think my death had to do with either my last few posts fingering Seeker and Telcontar, or else with my ill-advised investigation of Zeriel. It could be that they just randomly picked me and got lucky that I was a power role, but I have my doubts.

Oredigger is the only person making any sense now. They really need to test/vote anyone besides Seeker. Although a part of me wants to see what horribleness will happen if the town does test/lynch him.

Yeah, wolf or not, there was no reason to say he’s a wolf.

The only reason I’d think he was lying is just because the other wolves would be thinking, “Dude, why are you outing yourself” and then yelling at him at the next wolf meeting.

And if he IS a vanilla farmer, then the wolves probably won’t touch him just because they know everyone will be suspecting him.

His whole “I sacrifice myself” thing is really weird. It’s not like anyone gained anything from his claim, false or not.
