I tried to play the first one, but it was simply too tedious - the 45+ minute cutscenes and incredibly frequent-but-boring battles just proved to be too much.

Still, I really loved the CONCEPT of the game, and the original Xenogears is actually my favorite RPG of all time.

So what happens in these games? I may break down and play the third one if they’ve worked those kinks out by that point. What’s the story?

I, too, would like an answer. I never got around to playing Xenosaga. I did like Xenogears, more or less (despite a number of useless “features” built into the game), but never finished it due to the insane length.
