With all this talk lately about LeBron James’ and Willis McGahee’s agents getting them good deals, I’ve been wondering-what does it take to become a sports agent? Do they get paid a lot? Looking at a possible career here…
You technically don’t need a grade school education to be a sports agent, but I would very much suggest getting a law degree, as you’re likely to be drafting and evaluating contracts and contract offers, etc.
Note that in each sport, agents are limited in how much they can make off of a player’s contract. The percentage is usually about 4%, IIRC.
Of course, agents can bill for other services they provide.
