OK, seriously ready to take a sledgehammer to our Sharepoint server. It’s been down for most of the day, and crawling slower than a snail through molasses the few times I’ve even managed to load a page. I’ve got a Very Important File that I need to update today, dammit.
taxi, I actually don’t see LiLi all that often IRL because our schedules rarely align. I tend to get most of my updates on her life via the MMP, like the rest of y’all.
Oh, and welcome to the granola addicts club. I suspect there’s a chemical reaction that occurs when you toast oats with honey that results in a heroin-like compound being produced. There’s no other explanation for how addictive the stuff becomes once you start making it.
I went for my analysis of the last two weeks on insulin. The best news is that I’ve lost four pounds! Just from restricting my carbs a little. Seriously! The nutritionist said she was very proud of me and that I’m doing great!
I thought my glucose levels had been very high, but Anthony the Nurse Practioner said, “Yes, they are high but not that bad,” and that was to be expected. He adjusted my dose. I don’t have to go back for another month. Yay!
I took the dogs for a walk down by the bayou. We are having some gorgeous weather! Spring is almost here. I bought a new plant to go by the front door, and potted it. It’s a snake plant, aka mother-in-law’s tongue. They do well in low light and forgetting to water them.
Tomorrow we’re going to the Houston Drag raceway - a friend at work gave us the tickets. I’m not into it, but Mr Rebo will be in his element.
I have vegetable beef soup on the stove, and we’re going to the bar a little later. Oh, did I tell y’all that Anthony said alcohol doesn’t affect my diabetes at all.
Hugs and kisses, gropes and noogies – pass 'em around!
ETA: c’mon out and play, tinyninjachef 2.0!
Howdy Y’all! Four down and one to go! WOOHOO! Plus only three days next week cause I’m takin’ Firday and Sattidy off!
Ummm… Evensong tonight. Well, sew a big ol’ H on me for heathen cause it’s icky out and I ain’t goin’ nowhere. Besides my halo is shiny enough right now.
Dindin tonight is leftover veggie lasagna, leftover sallit and bread that’s not leftover, so I’m not a total sloth.
Yays, boos, hugs, etc… Ima go have a beer and watch it rain for a bit.
I’m hoping either Mr Lissar or QD will give me a heads up.
Or maybe LiLi will just post from the hospital in between contractions, in fine Doper tradition.
Now have a severe poutine craving. Might indulge, too, since The Boy won’t be home tonight… so maybe one of my friends will humour me and come out for some beer and poutine and kvetching instead.
I’m kind of intrigued by poutine in a strange sort of way. On the face of it, it sounds pretty gross, but it might taste alright. I’m willing to give most any food a try.
It’s been a fairly quiet day, although my dog just can’t seem to settle down. He’s acting all antsy. No, he doesn’t have to potty; I’ve let him out several times. His food and water bowls are full, and I’ve given him treats twice now.
Phooey. Everyone is either busy or sick or just not interested tonight, and it’s way too rainy for me to go get some takeout poutine all by myself (or rather, too rainy to be able to get home with an intact poutine). Guess I’ll just whine at The Boy to go later this weekend.
Which doesn’t resolve my current dilemma of a) what to do with myself tonight and b) what to eat for dinner. Perhaps I’ll be lazy and order a pizza, because I have zero interest in cooking for myself.
We went to PapaJohn’s, then popped into the grocery next door and got a cake for dessert. Plus I got some half-n-half so I can make a toasted almond later. I need to sleep tonight.
It’s squishy in my yard, and it won’t get a chance to dry out till maybe Monday or Tuesday. At least it’s not snow!!
Poutine combines the goodness of fries with the salty savoury yumminess of gravy, and tops it with delicious melting cheese. It is pretty much the perfect food.
Didn’t bring on labour, but the night is still young.
IIRC, LiLi posted to her blog just before leaving for the hospital and one of the husbands posted a comment when Nat had arrived.
The recipe makes 2 loaves, taxi. I’m making the full recipe for the biga and am only going to use 1/2 for bread this weekend. I’m going to freeze the rest and either make another loaf or use it to make pizza dough. I probably won’t use up the whole loaf at once, so I’ll probably freeze part. I’ve also thought about making garlic bread and slicing it up and freezing and then finishing it off over a few weeks.
I would think you’d be able to make a bread with part whole-wheat flour, too. Bread is pretty forgiving as long as you follow the basic rules. The best brief summary of bread-making rules I’ve come across is from Molly Katzen and is in the Enchanted Broccoli Forest. I have the original edition, but I’ve checked the new one and the bread-baking section is still there.
Oh, and I would pronounce it BEEG-ah.
And, yeah…I’m planning on making granola this weekend, so I imagine I’ll be glaring at Muppet by Monday…
Go Rebo on the health progress!
And, yes, tarra, you should go ahead and try for leave donation. (Can you apply even if you’ve accumulated credit time?) Our leave donation program seems to be different from the federal one, but it’s one of the best things anyone ever invented, I think. I’ve been on the donating side a number of times, and have always thought it’s wonderful that it could be available if I ever needed it.
Happy Birthday, Nava! (It’s already your birthday where you are, right?)
Oh…I just had an idea for Monday, so I’m calling dibs…
Soapy–every parent on the planet has been there, and those that say they haven’t are lying (or else have done something much worse–like never be there at all for their kids emotionally).
You’re not just there to teach him how to be “good” or honest or whatever; you also are teaching him what it is to mess up and what to do when you do–a lesson that is much more important in the grand scheme of things. Forgive yourself–another hard thing to do.
I am so HAPPY. HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY! My one surgical case got canceled. Yay–now I can go shoe shopping (my dogs are barking for new work shoes).
But I am also pissed off:  see? There’s a thread on here re nurses having sex with pts and I know folks are (mostly) joking, but it makes me see red. Not to be dramatic, but I have literally held someone’s life in my hands and judgement and it hurts to see my job mocked and dismissed for some stupid sex fantasy. May those who find it funny be helpless in a bed someday and no there to come to their aid. Yes–I am that mad. I can’t even post in there again.
Do Chinese restaurants everywhere produce portions fit to make even a 15yo male feel full? It’s been so every time I’ve been in one, and they seem to fill 'em up even more when it’s take away.
“Enchanted Broccoli Forest” is an intriguing name.
I watched Pan’s Labyrinth last night (got the DVD at the supermarket a couple weeks ago). I liked it, but that’s got to have been the biggest and best-equipped Maquis cell in all of Spain and parts abroad. I can even count watching it as “homework,” because I’m doing some stuff on subtitles and I had the subtitles on
Yes, gt, it’s official. In a few hours I will be older than right now (I was born at 12:47, Pamplona time). Should I join the 29yo crowd? I don’t feel old enough to start shaving years off yet!
