Spring has sprung!

A huge fly flew into my house last night. Buzzed around until I had to get up and kill it.

I hate insect season.

Your thread title reminded me of a little poem my mother used to recite when I was a wee lass:

Spring as sprung and fall has fell
Now it’s summer and it’s hotter than usual.

You remember my mother don’t you? That sweet, amiable, older lady? Who’d’a expected that from her??

Spring has sprung,
the grass has riz,
I wonder where
the birdies is?

This far south we’re well into Spring. While I hate to see it pass, it has been one of the more pleasant and colorful that I can remember. Finished blooming are the lorapetalum, vibernum, mountain laurel, traditional azaleas and wisteria, as well as the pines, live oaks, dogwoods and redbuds. The Encore azaleas are still going though, as are the Carolina jasmine, roses, pyracantha and even the pomegranite’s starting to bud with its pink and white “carnations.”

Yesterday, my daughter and I watched a pair of Cardinals and a family of Carolina Wrens in the backyard. The two chicks were so tiny and comical as they hopped and fluttered around exploring their new environment. All the Mockingbirds have been in full chorus, day and night, for several weeks now. I never tire of hearing their amazing repertoire of songs.
