Forget robins and daffodils – today marks the day when the down comforter goes back into the closet for its six-month estivation. It’s time to bring out the three cotton blankets, which will be retired one layer at a time over the next couple of months.
I learned the hard way yesterday that spring is officially here. My car is now covered in Live Oak pollen and small smashed berries. Reminder to self: don’t park underneath trees for six months.
Woo-hoo! I’m cleaning out the humidifiers for storage today. Bleach, vinegar (let’s hear it for hard water!), the whole 9 yards.
And Daddy took the sprog out yesterday with the bubble blowing lawnmower. It IS spring! (Although it’s still in the 40’s and we’re s’posed to get snow this week. Urgh.)
Yesterday it got up to 48 here. People were running around in t-shirts, for pete’s sake! The streets and our driveway feel so wide!!! The snow piles are leaving!!!
The glacier that encapsulates my car is slowly receding! We must be in similar weather- yesterday I heard a bird singing as I stepped out into the sunny, crisp, 28-degree weather. A bird! Mental note: buy sunglasses, straw hat, sandals.
Not spring cleaning !!!
I think Hubby needs to cut the grass. (check out the weeds on the pond dam! )
I know spring has arrived when this dogwoodblooms. Yay!
Heh. On Easter, my friend’s neighbors were barbequing in their front yard while the kids played in a wading pool! Yes, it was that warm.
On the other hand, I read just the other day that the cost of living in the Bay Area is 180-something percent of the cost elsewhere.
How things have changed in a week. On Easter Sunday we had snow on the ground, today it’s nice and sunny with temperatures up to 16 degrees C (60 f).
It’s still zero, and I still have 3 feet of snow on my lawn. Although the big fiery ball in the sky seems somewhat warmer today. It’s supposed to go up to 12 on Tuesday. I think I’ll be BBQing in my Hawaiian shirt and Bermuda shorts if that holds true.
Time to polish up the golf clubs!
FORE!
We saw the blimp yesterday, getting its game face on for Indians Opening Day today!
We live in the path the blimp takes from Jacobs Field – er, Progressive Field (sigh) to its mooring and every summer night after a home game, we hear it go overhead on its way home. That ineffable sound, a combination of whir and putt, says summer to me. It’s a very comforting sound. And we are so used to the blimp hovering overhead, but we still go outside to look up when we hear it. Kids wave at it; adults smile. If you’re driving you crane your neck to look a while longer.
Go Tribe!
…because there is NO MORE skiing for at least 6 more months! I love winter-and i dread the heat and humidity that is coming! Too bad we couldn’t have spring over in 2-3 weeks, then a month of summer-then 4 months of Fall-then WINTER!
shudders
Not me, boyo – I’m a reptile, I’m not warm enough till it’s consistently over 80.
Tell me about it. I was out weeding and getting the garden beds ready for planting yesterday. I also put mulch in the flower bed and around the tress. Now if I could only get the grass to cooperate, I would have a nice yard.
Can someone please explain to me (for those of you who live near Chicago–and know what type of weather we’ve been having) why my neighbor would water his lawn yesterday?
We have standing water in many of the forest preserves here. We’ve had more than 50 inches of snow and rain this winter. It is raining outside right now. We haven’t had a sunny day since Friday (and for a solid 2 week prior to that).
Gah.
I know spring is here since my daffodils are growing rapidly, the robins are in the yard, my nose is now stuffy and I feel colder in the house than outside.
12 degrees on Tuesday?
:: checks weather ::
13 and partly sunny tomorrow in Toronto! Yay! The grim grey grip of winter is breaking!
Edit: I also know this because the Spring Road Havoc in my neighbourhood has just begun. Construction, road closures, bus rerouting…
Habit?
I have a couple of mini irises, greenery from a daffodil, and I saw a robin in a tree last week. But it’s wet and cold and I want some sunshine, darnit! I’m tired of this! Guess I’ll just have to make do. Smile at the irises and try to ignore the mud.
We got a couple of centimetres of snow today!
Actually, the new accumulation has all melted (yay!) but there’s still quite a bit out there. They are expecting warmer weather tomorrow, but with clouds and rain. It ought to be between 0-5C for the rest of the week. That’s still at least 3-5C below normal for this time of year. It ain’t spring yet
Spring hasn’t just sprung around here, it straight up exploded. I can’t imagine why I can’t breathe!
(PS, **labtrash **if you’re reading this, I haven’t forgotton to put Stanley in the wildflowers! He’s going this week.)
Wow! Gorgeous!
Yep Spring done sprung. Damn pine pollen everywhere. I’ve already mowed. My pet lizards (named Liz, Ard, Fred and Ethel) are hangin’ around the back porch again. Soon, no doubt I shall be witness to hot lizard lovin’ as they have no shame.
