ok shoe needs t show her place of employment how to run their website for delivery because I didn’t get my dinner thanks to them and door dash …but ended up with del taco and 5 or 6 drinks from the bar and I’m buzzed …a double mai tai a double Midori sour an angry orchard and a blue Hawaiian…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 77 and N.O.S. for the day. Nice weather! May even open up some windows in da cave. The weird grocery sto’ has Poopsie products on sale, so I shall go and stock up on Diet Poopsie, which is our preferred soft drink. Other than that, much sloth and uselessness will ensue. Sup shall be via Long John Silver’s just cause.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the great unwashed attire. Oh how I suffer.
Happy Firday Y’all!
Morning, mumpers! It’s my last official irk day before I head off on my jollies on Monday (negative LFTs permitting)…I am peeved however, since I’ve had to come to campus on a day when I am not supposed to, and in a week I’d specifically requested to work remotely (and reduce potential exposure to germs from all the plague-rats on the trains). One person is off sick and another on leave so we are short of adequate cover for office, thus I have had to come in because nobody else in the team was willing to swap a day. I’m annoyed because I had my week planned, didn’t find out until yesterday lunchtime that I’d have to come in today, had to do a bunch of things at home that I’d intended to do today…and also have made the decision to drive to campus which adds to my commuting time and causes me far too much stress since all the other drivers out there are absolute cockwombles.
Belated happy birthday, Shady, I hope you had a good day!
Welcome back, Juliet - you should come around more often, less catching up to do ![]()
Batboy sorry to hear you have the lurgy, it’s pretty much unavoidable when you use public transport. I’m still firmly in the mask-wearing camp, especially on public transport and at the supermarket.
mooom hope you have had some good news on the car, I completely understand what you mean about sending FCD to do the talking. I book our rental cars and yet the desk staff direct all their questions, comments etc at blokie despite the fact he’s not mentioned on the paperwork because he can’t drive!
shoe congrats on the promotion, I hope it means more money coming your way too!
Oh well, back to exam spreadsheet hell for hopefully the last few hours…
It’s for the anchor wash-down system. It sucks in raw water from the river/bay/whatever so you can use it to wash the muck off the anchor and anchor chain as you bring it up - that way you don’t have an anchor locker full of muck. So, no, not a bilge pump. The only reason FCD considered having them replace it is the location - apparently it sits in a spot that requires some contortioning to reach. Anyway, not a safety issue.
My folks had several RVs over the years after Dad retired, and when he died, Mom thought about hanging on to it. Then gas prices started going nuts and the age of the vehicle led to some pricey maintenance issues, so she sold it. I know on one hand, she hated to have to do that, but really, it was just too much on top of everything else she was dealing with, and she realized she wouldn’t use it nearly as much as they did together. For her it was a relief on several levels.
That answers my question of what not drive to avoid plague rats… Of course, we have virtually no public transportation options here in the boonies, so driving is always the default. But, hey, you get away for a while!!! So YAY!!!
Still waiting for GEICO to finish whatever it is they do with the damage report/estimate from the body shop. One thing FCD didn’t ask was about when it can be fixed and how long it will take. Not that I have a lot to plan around, tho I’m guessing it won’t get done till we return from cruise. Again, not a huge deal, just a little inconvenience. Oh well…
I really need to quit reading before bed - I was nearly finished - maybe 3 chapters to go, and I had to know how everything ended, so I was up till just after 1. Then I woke just after 6, so not a lot of sleep. Still, all I need to do today is pack the car, haul the dog to Daughter’s house, drop off the truck at our marina, then we’re off. FCD is still abed - he’ll be driving so he’ll need the sleep.
I cleaned the cat box already - it won’t be touched till we get back tomorrow evening. I’ve got the ice maker going because we’ll need lots of ice. And I’ve had a hard boiled egg rolled in a tortilla for my breakfast. No rushing around - we’ll do what needs doing then be on our way. But it’s going to be a chilly couple of days - at least lots of sun is forecast for tomorrow, and we can stay in the cabin for most of the trip.
At least it’ll be better than when we moved our motor-sailer from Baltimore to Solomons in 2004. It was January, and there was ice on the boat. We had a pilot house wherein we were bundled in afghans with a small propane heater to keep us from totally freezing. It was quite a trip - wish I knew where the pictures got to.
I don’t know if the marina in Oxford has wifi, so I may not be posting much - at a minimum, I’ll check in on FB to let everyone know we’re alive, so try not to fret if you don’t hear from me for a stretch.
Happy Firday!!
I got an email from Royal Caribbean yesterday for their “Royal Up” deal - you can bid on a cabin upgrade. So I figured, what the heck. I put in the minimum bid to upgrade from window cabin to balcony cabin. If by some miracle it’s accepted, we’ll get a bigger cabin with a balcony for an extra $300 - LOTS cheaper than if we’d booked a balcony in the first place. And if not, we’ve lost nothing. We won’t know till possibly the day we sail - so what? It’s an adventure.
I’m guessing they’re having problems filling the ships so they’re offering incentives to maybe drum up business? We’ll see…
Sounds like your birthday was da bomb shady. ![]()
Moooooom, sexist or not, I would have done the same thing sending FCD to the repair shop. When my sister graduated from college and Dad helped her move to Houston, one of the things that she had to do was buy a car. Dad went with her to help with questions she wouldn’t have thought of, but when the sales rep began to do all of the finance talking to him, he flat out told him (again) that Sis was the one buying the car, not him. Having bought enough vehicles myself, I can identify.
I talked to my neighbor Ann (Nelson’s shih tzu girlfriends’ mom) in the next building. She works from home and, by request, will sign for packages, etc. She has everyone’s contact info, including some ICE numbers for most of us. She said that she would call Molly’s dad’s mom (who is a dog trainer) to apprise her of the situation. Hopefully, she’ll put some pressure on him to do the right thing. :fingers crossed:
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels ready for the dryer and a load of jeans on deck. It will be a typical Friday of houseirk, laundry and a grocery run. Yippee! Winter came back, so unless it gets warmer than predicted this afternoon, Nelson’s outing may be limited to a walkabout at Lowe’s (he gets spoiled by the employees there
).
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Thank you! ![]()
I asked, it’s a “we’ll see, we’re workin’ on it” type of situation.
Honestly, it doesn’t change much for me, because
shhh unofficially, I practically run this place already. Quietly.
Why? Because “those kids” are starting to really bond with me. It’s amazing. They obey when I glare, they take my advice (sometimes), they hit me up for rides in our off-work time.
… for someone who poured an ungodly amount of money, pain, and resources into not having children, being den mother to a bunch of teens is an odd position to find myself in.
Ah, and to your last question: two of them hit me up for a ride last night, and we wound up passing right by my place so we just hung out for a while, the three of us, in my living room that has seen very little human company during these pandemic times.
It was awesome having silly banter and derping with Monkey (who initially was, like, “OMG PEOPLE” and kinda gave away my hermit ways) and after I dropped them off, I felt so delighted with life that I ate an entire T.V. dinner and started healing, both physically and mentally, from the last coupla days.
Now I gotta get those fluttery eyelashes slapped back on & hit life, soon.
Oh. There’s a new hire I need to meet today - we’ll see how this one works out.
I am adding this word to my vocabulary immediately, and hope to use it as often as possible.
Morning all. Doing exercise in the evening plus a hot bath equaled sleeping until 8am, so should be ready for the day. Refereeing 3 soccer games tomorrow (only U10’s, so 50 minutes each) to keep busy. Have some things to do this morning (mail, bank, bill drop, eye appointment), so do need to get myself prepared. Swimmin’ and Sauna are on the agenda too. So a fairly active Firday.
red, ya did what you could for poor Molly. Good on ya.
shoe, teens know when someone cares about them; they might not show it all the time…but they know. And it sounds like they are doing you some good, too.
FCM, already have a balcony, but if Celebrity wants to try something like that, I might bid on one of the ‘upper’ cabins… Good wishes on the Great Boat Adventure.
boo fae, hopefully your bosses will remember and give you some time off later…which of course doesn’t help now, but…
Well, there appears to be a bomb involved…
bat boy, hope you’re getting better. Take care.
OK, need to finish the morning internettin’ and get about the day.
First of the month, and the datalanche has begun. And I got a file from a delinquent account! Yay!
There was a message yesterday that the lawnmower is finished. $220. I’ll run down and pick it up around lunchtime.
We’ve signed up to get a second covid booster on Sunday. Might as well get it out of the way and avoid the rush later when people suddenly realize that this thing is NOT going away.
Today is our 29th anniversary. We’re having some old friends from our Foreign Service days over for a brunch, as it’s likely we will never see them again after we move. Then we’ll probably celebrate by taking a nap.
I, too, am now in love with the word “cockwombles” and will begin using it in discussion with my boss immediately.
I am so, so, so glad it is Friday. It’s finally sunny again outside. I’m all dressed for my waddle/run, though I’m waiting until after my meeting with one of my employees so if I’m out of patience at that point, I can take it out on the pavement. Also, because my husband and I have been in a Battle Royale over our sad, 20-year old treadmill.
The husband unit has decided he needs to get in better shape, which I absolutely support (he’s recently been finding it hard to get up stairs without feeling winded). But he wants to do it as quickly as possible so he’s been on the treadmill both in the morning (right when I used to use it), and also right after he’s done working (right when I would’ve used it if it were occupied in the a.m.). If it’s nice outside it’s not big deal, but it’s been around freezing and rainy at both times lately so it’s either freeze and be soaked or tackle him while he’s on the treadmill. Since I don’t want to have to buy a new treadmill (or my husband’s legs…yet), I guess we’ll have to be actual adults and figure out a schedule. Such exciting times, but I’ll take this “problem” over something more serious.
Happy Firday!
Happy April Fools’ Day!
It was 50 degrees, but damp and windy at the park. I didn’t stay long.
One, I was cold, two, Barky showed up and I just wasn’t in the mood for it, and three, I have a mess to deal with at home.
It has been a nasty morning.
I know where yesterday’s crash came from.
My attic window fell out, or rather fell in.
I saw it this morning as I was taking the dogs to the car. I hope it didn’t break, and that it is an easy fix of just popping it back in and securing it. I’m not going to the attic to check. There is no railing when you get near the top and with my knee, I am scared of falling. Although I could probably go half way up and see enough to know if it broke or not.
I stopped at CVS on the way back from the park, and only after pulling into the drive thru did I remember that I left the park early and they wouldn’t be open.
No matter though, the drive thru window is boarded up and closed because of a robbery.
Even though I shouldn’t have, I hopped over to McD’s for breakfast. The lines were long and I remember people at the park complaining because a bunch of new people were irking there, most of whom barely speak English, so everything is running slow and most orders are messed up.
You know, sometimes you need to trust your instincts.
There is a double line at this McD’s and they were about even. As I pulled into the one, I saw a car with FL plates and thought, don’t get in that line.
I should have listened.
Don’t know what the bitch’s problem was. She was sitting at the speaker and not doing anything. Meanwhile the other line is moving, and we are just sitting there. I, forgetting the window is down, said Why the fuck aren’t we moving? The lady in front of me gestured a I don’t know. I said I’m not yelling at you; she gave me a thumbs up. Finally, she had enough and just laid on her horn and the dumb bitch with the FL plates finally moved up. The one in front of me pulled out, too fed up with the wait, I guess. So, I order, and a guy from the other line gets between me and the dumb bitch. We start sitting again, and I have no idea what dumb bitch was going on about, and she keeps moving around in her seat. I asked the guy in front of me, is there anybody in front of her? He said no. I said do you think you can just ram her ass out of the way. He started laughing and said no, but I could if I wanted to. I said I can’t with you in my way. Meanwhile, tempers are brewing behind me and I can hear people arguing about who jumped in front of whom in line. Finally, the dumb bitch moved, gets to the pickup window, and then pulls up to where people wait for the food to be brought out.
I pulled up to pay and asked the guy what was wrong with her. He just laughed and made the cuckoo sign with his hand.
I get my food, drive past her, and damn if she and her passenger aren’t just sitting there eating.
So that is the start of my morning.
I don’t know what they are doing next door, but it sounds like somebody knocking at the door, and the dogs are going crazy barking at them.
Not suggesting anything, I certainly would never condone committing a crime, but I once helped steal a dog that was being abused/neglected. We could only steal one, because the other was too vicious.
I didn’t do the actual theft, just found the receiver and set up the meeting.
As you know, dogs have been known to slip their collars when tied out, or break the tie, or pull it out of the ground/wall/whatever it is attached to.
Dogs do escape.
Just saying.
I once ‘stole’ some puppies from the animal shelter. They were going to be put down because pregnant dogs and dogs with puppies were put down right away. The attendant told me what was up and said if I grabbed some before he finished counting them, I could have them. I couldn’t grab them all, huge litter, but I got four of them out. They were old enough to be weaned, so all I had to do was find homes for them.
Just got a text from the neighbor apologizing for all the noise. They have plumbers cleaning all the pipes.
They got into it again with the neighbor on the other side of them.
The neighbor on the other side, we’ll call her P, is on them about fixing the fence again. They told P if she went in on half the cost of panels, they would install them. P had a fit and said it’s not her fence so why should she pay anything? She also said a lot of other nasty things about the neighbor. Well, my neighbor doesn’t have a dog, and doesn’t need a fence, so if she decides to take the whole thing down, P is going to have to pay for the entire line of fence to be replaced. If I were P, I would pay for half the panels. I don’t know why she is so upset anyway. She has an older, fat, Bassett hound that doesn’t try to get through the fence anyway. I put up a fence, so my dogs aren’t over there. Even if they were, we fixed the spot where my dogs were getting through. So, I don’t get P’s obsession with the fence.
The neighbor thinks P may be a drinker, because her behavior is so erratic. She is nasty one day, and then nice the next. I thought P was losing it. She’s mid 60s, a little young I think for dementia, maybe? I know she’s Flippin’ crazy though. Maybe she is a drinker.
Happy Anniversary Cookie.
Congrats Shoe
Good luck FCM
MetalMouse, I’m afraid that if a ghost appeared, my brats would be hiding behind me.
I need to get busy. The middle bedroom is the overflow room and I need to straighten it a bit as that is where the door to the attic is. I’ve been wanting to get in there and organize a bit, but now I have no choice but to get it done. Since it will involve a bit of lifting, my son will have to help.
Still dealing with unemployment, and the hospital bills.
It’s like never ends. Fix one thing, and something else breaks or gets fucked up.
BooFae Just in case I miss you pre-departure, have a great trip!!!
Moomm safe voyage, if you see this.
red I’m glad you found someone who could maybe help Molly. ![]()
shoe don’t make me sick Jorts on you.
Don’t do the work unless they pay you for it. If they have to hire someone to do it, I can guarantee they’d have to pay. I’m glad you ate and you’re recovering {{{hugs}}}
cookie Happy Anniversary!
WTH? If it’s a shared lot line, it’s pretty common to share the costs. Neighbors can be a real pain in the ass.
We finished the re-fi on our Oregon house last night. I think we’ll get the CA house wrapped up soon. I am exhausted today. It’s just been A Week.
A Yoshi story for you. Yoshi also is fixated on Romeo, the Rottweiler next door. Yoshi has discovered that if he just stands at the fence and barks, sometimes Romeo will show up. I try to keep my dogs from bugging the neighbors, so the result is usually that I get his butt back inside. Poor Yoshi. Why am I thinking about this now? Oh, no reason.
Happy Friday everyone. I hope all the sickies feel better soonest.
Now I’m dying to know what the other ingredients were! Banana liqueur for Gilligan? Cognac for the Professor?
Shoe, nice to hear you’re gettin’ along with the young folks at work. I work with some younger people too (not teens, but a few in their 20’s), and they tend to gravitate toward me, an old guy with no kids. Maybe they can feel the “I’m not a parent” vibe or something.
Batboy, glad the plague isn’t treating you any worse, but sounds like it’s not exactly a carnival either. Feel better soon!
Sari, FL plates lady and neighbor P sound like they’re cut from the same cloth. The world must cater to my neeeds on my schedule, and I don’t care about anyone else. They’re not necessarily mean, just thoughtless. Sadly, I encounter people like this every damn day, and I just try to (politely as I can) get them out of my life as quickly as possible.
I wrote a long post for here, but the cockwombles struck and I posted it in the wrong thread thinking I was here. Left a flag hoping a mod can move it. I don’t know how to fix it otherwise.
So if you want to know, my Mumper morning post for here is over in the “what duct tape can’t fix” thread. Evidently duct tape can’t fix that cockwomble nor can I.
Here is the misplaced post copied and pasted:
…… Big day planned here. First gotta drink my first cup of coffee, which is lukewarm because, ahem, a certain bossy, pushy Siamese sat on my lap as soon as I sat down and I couldn’t reach it. By the time she deigned leave one arm and one leg had fallen prickly asleep and my life-sustaining beverage was tepid. Now she’s back, perched on my chest blocking my typing… next she’ll reach out a paw with those little capacitive paw pads and create gibberish with the touchscreen keyboard.
Then the roomie and I are going to my hairdresser to get haircuts (both of us) and in her case, her glorious brunette hair dyed red. Red red, not hair red, ruby red. Which is curious since she is a devout introvert and never goes anywhere for anyone to see her hair except the cats and me. My formerly fir decades short hair hasn’t been cut for two years since Covid isolation started and is now past my shoulders but stringy looking. Probably going for a still long but shaped bob with the front behind my ears-I worked to hard to grow out those bangs! No color for me unless you count the $27 a bottle lavender pastel shampoo that is supposed to counteract the brassy yellow in my feebly gray hair. She has cut my hair for 25 years so this will be adventure for both of us. I’ll try to be daring.
Then on the way home I have an appt to get my second booster vaccine on the better-safe-than-sorry plan.
Since the hair salon is next door to the French bakery we’ll grab a lunch of croissants and scones before our haircuts How very indulgent of us! Other pastries might be involved depending on the selection.
So indulge! cut! jab! Is the plan for the day. Cockwombles will no doubt insert themselves when I least expect it, they always do.
ETA: just realized I posted this in the wrong thread-supposed to be in the MMP so I guess the cockwombles have already taken over…
Afternoon all. Been a busy Firday morning, dropped off the electric bill at the drop box, made an eye doctor appointment for Monday at 2pm (don’t let me forget) then got some money from the bank and proceeded to spend it on filling up the car, then mailed a letter and went and got my 2nd COVID booster. Got home and while eating lunch scheduled my annual physical check-up (27 April) and a meeting with the Edward Jones folks (5 April). So it’s been productive. In about an hour or so I’ll change and head to the gym for the swimmin’ portion of the day.
BBBoo, hope hair day makes you and roomie both happy.
Sari, sometimes life just gangs up on us, it’ll work itself out. Can you get somebody over to refit/replace the window?
talkie, do you have any gyms close by? Either you or him could join (or both) and give that poor treadmill a break…
OK, life is proceeding. All y’all take care.
The heck of it is I don’t remember all the ingredients.
But is would be fun to mix and experiment. Expensive, but fun.
OK editing, I don’t know why but this was a reply to Wheelz and the quote function didn’t work.
Further cockwombles~my hair stylist called and hoped we could reschedule since she was running behind and of course we were more than willing to, so now the two haircuts and roomie’s RED dye job are hopefully happening next Wednesday. The pastry feast will happen then also but I’ll still go out today to keep my booster jab #2 appt so we will both be getting our booster booster jabs on the same day. Your hair will look better though😜, at least for the next week.
My jab is at the pharmacy in my grocery store so I might see if I can grab something fun for dinner to make up for the non-haircut pampering. Pizza? Fried chicken? Chinese?
Our Midwest chain grocery store (HyVee) offers a gas saver’s program. Today only, we got fifty cents per gallon gas credit for every fifty dollars spent. I filled a cart and got in line. Sunflower went to the pharmacy and found out that they were giving the new Pfizer booster, no wait and no charge! She came back and let me know. I paid for the groceries and got a dollar fifty in gas credit and then joined her at the pharmacy. We received our booster shots and got fifty cents gas credit for each. These days, two dollars and fifty cents a gallon is a good discount, and a no wait, no hassle booster was just the thing…
