Our tax return arrived yesterday, so Owls and I are going out tomorrow to see about getting parts (I want it built for me, he wants to build it himself…I’m still not sure who will win that one). My current machine is creeping up on 3 1/2 years old, has had overheating issues for at least half that–combination of a lousy case and a period where I couldn’t turn my heater off–and the recent WoW expansion has been hitting it like a sledgehammer. So, time for a new one, and a nice big check from the government is as good an excuse as any to buy it.
Mundane, pointless, but I felt I must share.
One last time…SQUEE!!!
In other news, I got a call back from the local TV station last week about a job I’d applied for. Cross your fingers for me folks!
I’m waiting for my new PC to be delivered so am squeeing a little bit myself. I’ve ordered Warhammer Online so that I have it ready to play when the new PC comes, coz I sure as hell can’t play it on this one!
My motherboard gave up the ghost a few days ago First I was having video issues which I promptly blamed on my video card, When the issues continued, and after some trouble shooting, I realized the graphics port on the mobo was shot and so was one of the RAM slots.
Screw this, I said and decided to update my machine. Used my tax refund as well and ended up going for the i7 920 processor with an intel based board, 6 gigs of RAM and the GTX 285.
I hadn’t updated my mobo for 2 years and my old video card is now going on Craig’s list. I’ll probably give my old RAM to my mom.
If it wasn’t for the government check I wouldn’t have touched the i7 platform though. But I’m happy. I’m running Crysis at 1920x1200 2xAA 16x AF all settings on very high and getting nice, smooth frame rates. The empire total war demo runs beautifully as well.
Nice rig! I’m running 4GB RAM, an Nvidia 9600GT, an AMD dual core processor at 3.7ghz and I am running Crysis quite well too. And the game is freaking awesome.
