Is there anything in my writing that led you to believe I hired anyone?
I am obviously not the OP, but I’ve been to too many funerals, and they are often performed by clergy of churches I don’t agree with, and I’ve never witnessed anything like that. Funerals aren’t a normal venue for that sort of thing. Funeral services sometimes talk about the dead, sometimes talk about the circle of life, or salvation in Christ, or some other death-inspired philosophical musing. They often talk about the majesty of God or God’s grace. They sometimes include a statement of faith. Sometimes they are simple and clean, and sometimes they are full of incense and ritual.
But talking explicitly about the sins of people who aren’t the deceased? Naw, that’s neither the time nor the place. That’s really far-out and weird. I would never expect to be ambushed by something like that at a funeral.
I went to one where we all got a “anyone who isn’t saved needs to be saved” speech. The preacher even explicitly said he couldn’t pass up an opportunity to preach to so many who didn’t normally attend church/didn’t have Christ in their hearts/etc. The place was packed, I’ll grant you that, and there may have been people standing outside. And maybe the deceased would have wanted that - I believe he used to be a preacher at one time. Seems like older people think that’s appropriate more than younger people. Irritated my mother, but I’ve no idea how the immediate family felt about it. But I’ve fortunately never been to a funeral where specific sins or types of sinners were called out for condemnation.
Sad to hear how old was he when he died?
Sorry, I misunderstood.
Lanzy, I’d offer you a beverage of your choice, but I think we’re too distant for me to ever be able to actually pay it. Loved both the action and the description.
Thanks Nava, I live in the city with one of the most popular destinations of the world, you never know.
That is the most saddest thing, he was 63, 4 months older than I. He is the 4th friend in my age group to die within the last year. All of them at 63, coincidence runs high in my life it seems.
