Star Ocean for PS2 -- help me get it to work

Hi all,

I figured with my day off from work, I could start playing Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time on my new PlayStation 2. Well, at the beginning there’s this ‘battle simulator’ that always freezes when it has to go into ‘battle mode.’

I’ve reset this thing dozens of times (thankfully they have an option to skip the opening conversations) and it’s frozen at this point every time.

The game is new, the PS2 is also new, and Square’s technical support line has the day off.

Its FAQ has two suggestions – disconnect some kind of game-cheat-device (which I don’t own), or check for scratches (which it does not have).

I don’t belong to any ‘gaming messageboards’ but I found a thread here about the game so I figured I’d try you guys.

Help?

Are you using a PSTwo, the brand-new “small” types of the systems? Those have been known to crash games after only a few minutes of play.

Yeah, but it hasn’t happened with any other game and it always happens in the same spot with Star Ocean every time, which leads me to believe that it’s a problem with the software.

Either way, what would I do to get around the problem?

It’s likely with the PSTwo itself and the software not getting along. The best (and simplest) thing you can do is trade one of them in for another copy.

(sigh) and to think I got the video game system because I was sick of the no-two-computers-are-alike problem of getting computer games to work. I figured with an every-system-should-be-the-same setup like this, I wouldn’t have such problems.

Thanks ShockingAlberto
