Looks like with little fanfare they released a new Trek Online CCG (Collectible card game) called Star Trek Adversaries. Some info about the game is here. The game itself is here and is for some reason very hard to find via google. Haven’t played it at all but it looks neat.
The article says it’s “the first free-to-play online collectible card video game set in the vast Star Trek universe”. I think Star Trek: Rivals might like a word with them.
I just tried to play the game, but the font used for the user agreement/license, whatever they called it, was so small that there weren’t enough pixels to clearly define the letters. Completely unreadable.
Hm, I’ll check out the site:

Okay, we’re done here.
I’m not sure what your issue with the list was?
“your Flagship is becomes quite the force,” and “Shiip of the Dead,” I’m guessing. Obvious typos on your company’s home page don’t do a lot to impress prospective customers.
Also the bit about ‘bolstering your dek.’
Playing an online CCG is a time investment. If the creators can’t be bothered to make sure they spelled “ship” and “deck” correctly, I have serious doubts that they’ll be bothered to spend time on things like QA and balance.
Yeah if I tried playing that game the broken English would drive me crazy.
Ah, I didn’t even notice. Assumed it was a reaction to them including a reference to a Trek series you hated.
I went back and looked at their page again. I think that they have issues with math as well as with grammar:
So, 50+ starships, and 140+ crewmembers somehow adds up to “300 ships and crew”?
Usually, if someone uses a term like “more than 50” in marketing materials, it’s safe to assume that the actual number is just north of 50. If the game actually has “300 ships and crew,” then why not say “100 ships and 200 crewmembers” (or whatever the actual numbers are, that add to 300)?
I downloaded this on Steam on Opening Day Early Access and it is a fun yet challenging CCG.
The devs and mods are super nice and don’t deserve the flippant negativity (see the mixed reviews on Steam, but at least those gamers actually played it for a few minutes as opposed to here were you guys bashed the actual press release). There are typos and bugs but they fix them as soon as they are reported, thus…Early Access. They have a small team working on an expensive license. I don’t think they have enough money yet for traditional marketing so have been slowly rolling out word-of-mouth campaigns. The community is growing on Discord, Steam, Reddit, Youtube, and Twitch. Any question or concern you have can be answered immediately by the mods or community.
The theme of the game is pure Star Trek ship-to-ship battles in a Hearthstone format, with some added mechanics.
It will take a very long time to get the rare cards you want if you don’t buy them individually or via packs, but they are not blocked from free players. That said, if you want all the cards and ships, it will cost a lot via microtransactions. Otherwise, you earn game currency by winning PvP matches.
A match lasts around 10-30 minutes, depending on the skill of your opponent, decks, and luck.
The mechanics, gameplay, sounds, cards, and challenge are great.
If you put out info that reflects poorly on your game and makes you look unprofessional, expect backlash. To insist otherwise is ridiculous.
What would you think would happen if someone made a movie trailer for a serious drama that showed actors stumbling over their lines, boom mics dropping into frame, poorly-constructed set pieces, misspelled words…? You’d think it’s a mess and you’d avoid the film unless you went to see it as an unintentional comedy.
That’s the equivalent of what happened. If they got their act together and fixed the product then good. But if you’re showing your product to the public and there are tons of mistakes what do you expect? Especially in an industry where the vast majority of the products released are garbage (seriously, Steam has lots of really bad games among their great titles).
I had a hard time getting into the game and stopped playing pretty quickly. I am wondering if anyone else is playing to see if maybe I should pick it back up again.
I bought a lot of the old one wayyyyy back in the day figuring it would be valuable like Magic…uhhhh
The old one might not have been valuable but I thought it was fun. Rather than just beating your opponent you’re trying to solve missions. And I’m not a Star Trek fan.
