Star Trek Continues

I was wondering what you guys thought of the first three episodes, aside from the set. I really did not see the family resemblance between one of the current cast members and one of the original cast members, is it obvious to anyone? No cheating and googleing the answer.

Hi Silenus

where would you have put this?

I think he probably thinks it should be Café Society because it deals with cultural things (videos).

ETA : Don’t worry. A moderator will see the report and move it for you. Haven’t met you before - welcome!

oh good to know, thank you.

The guy playing Kirk has a resemblance to Shatner. Are they related?

The episode does a good job capturing the look and feel of the original series. One nice detail was the mini skirted crewman that enters the bridge as Kirk signs a memo pad. That scene was often used in the original.

Nope, he is not the one. Yes I found that the whistle and music and even lighting was well done. when they sat down for dinner not sure if the table was to short or narrow or both, something about that scene was off. Sadly the social issue of slavery or human trafficking is still an issue. There are not as many taboo issues left to deal with, but it will be interesting to see if they do further episodes and what issues they might chose to deal with.

Just something about green people that I dig.

Big fan. Family resemblance? You must be talking about James Doohan and his son, Chris. I thought he did great.

Yes, you got it.

So you could probably my tell me then, I understand that they raised money through kick starter, do you know if they are going to do further episodes. I only found out about it today.

Yes. http://www.startrekcontinues.com/

Have you seen all three to date? Each one is better than the previous, IMO.

No I still need to watch the 3rd episode.

Thanks for posting the link.

Moved MPSIMS --> Cafe Society.

Dunno, the guy playing Kirk is pinging my gaydar, so possibly not the best casting choice there.

I don’t know how you could miss the resemblance between Chris Doohan and James Doohan. I thought it was somewhat eerie.

As for the episodes themself I thought the acting overall was above average (especially if you compare it to Star Trek Phase II). And the stories were more than adequate. I really liked the one with Apollo.

They have a ship’s counselor?
How does that work out?

Not so sure about the gaydar, but his voice is jarring. Far too high-pitched for Kirk. Really ruins it for me.

So far everything else is cool, but I’ve only watched 5 minutes.

Overall, I think they hold up fairly well as equivalents to TOS, and I don’t think they are trying to be anything more than that. Stories are fairly equivalent, and most of the acting. “Lolani,” in particular, seems to hold up well compared to the 60s version.
As far as a ship’s counselor is concerned, so far, she functions well as a foil to Captain Kirk, and I’m okay with that for now.

She functions as more than that, if rumors are to be believed. (More a scabbard than a foil.)

I think they’re doing a very nice job with the production values, most of the acting, costumes, makeup.

The Mirror Mirror follow-up ep. is good stuff.

Is that…

Is that Grant Imahara as Sulu?

Living the dream, baby. Living the dream.
