The New Star Trek series may be an Anthology!

Yes! Info here. It’s not definite but I hope it’s true. Many moons ago in one of the “What would you want the New Star Trek to be” threads on here, this was exactly what I wrote I wanted it to be. Like American Horror Story, each season a new setting and new characters. It could run forever. If true, it’s perfect.

I may actually get CBS’s stupid streaming service now.

That is good news! If it’s true they wouldn’t have to stick to any one time period and could fill in a lot of gaps in the canon.

It terrifies me to think about what the budget for a Star Trek anthology show would be like, especially after they cleaned out and sold the stuff in the prop and costume warehouse.

Why not go for the Gold Standard, and make each episode have its own characters, cast, and backstory? It would be just like Twilight Zone!

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”?

Casual Friday’s.

I would *love *to see a post-Dominion War arc with cameos from some DS9 characters, set 15-20 years after the war.

They made it difficult, what with killing characters and moving others off the station.

FWIW there is a post War series of DS9 novels that are pretty good.

The whole point of the original series was that it was not an anthology but a self-contained community of regular characters with whom viewers could identify, just like Dodge City on Gunsmoke.

When you have a ship that can take you to a different planet every week, what’s the point of having a collection of unknowns in unrelated stories? Each story is unique, regardless of who’s in it.

My memory is hazy and I haven’t read the novels, but who did they kill off? I know Jadzia died before the last season and Sisko went to live with the Prophets, but I can’t think of another major character who died (well, other than Wayoun, but he was a secondary character). Really I guess I just want to catch up with Chief O’Brien.

Sisko fell about a million feet and is now a worm hole alien

“That was the last Weyoun clone.”
“I was hoping you would say that.”

you’re spoilering something skald referenced in his post?

I want to know if and how the series will be available to people who don’t subscribe to the streaming service. Because I don’t plan to.

I don’t want to be caught in the criss-fire.
How did skald get into this?

Agreed. The point of the ship is that every episode can be a self-contained science fiction story. All you need to do is travel to a new planet, and you’ve got a blank slate for whatever situation you want to explore.

The one thing that might improve is to shake up the crew all the time. People should be changing assignment a lot more frequently, new crew should added and old crew should be transferred away. You don’t want a situation where your XO is stuck on the same ship playing 2nd banana for 8 years, that would be career suicide.

mind control I guess - I read skammer, typed skald because, well, old.

Yeah, skald is kinda old.

Would you be limited by actors not willing to only do a few episodes?

So is skammer. And I apologize to anyone if I spoiled the finale of a 20 year old show.
