Star Trek Lower Decks

The line about being stuck on earth drinking wine in vineyards and soul food restaurants got a belly laugh from me.

Well, they thought they were on trial.

Both Worf and Geordi LaForge were lieutenants, junior grade in season 1 of TNG. Geordi got promoted to full lieutenant before season 2, and Worf got promoted to full lieutenant before season 3.

  1. Q is just so wonderful, John de Lancie is wonderful as Q, and the first Q scene where the bridge crew was in some inexplicable chess/cards/soccer thing was hysterical.

  2. Henceforth, I will say “Gorn wedding!” whenever I am alarmed.

Waitaminnit, I get the impression that these “Below Decks” characters are still officers. How about something about the enlisted crew?!

My conclusion, based on the extensive discussion above, is that there inexplicably aren’t any on the Cerritos. So an episode featuring enlisted crew would have to be set on another boat. Or the Cerritos people could run into them somewhere.

Ok, any lingering doubts I had about this show are gone. That was another killer episode, and I was laughing out loud at the wonderfully overblown approach sequence to the Cerritos in Spacedock, complete with ridiculous camera angles, swelling music and teary-eyed crew members. (The lens flares in the “movie” portions of the ep were a nice touch as well.) And best of all, some great character insights into Mariner that really dig into who she is without getting mawkish or heavy-handed. It sets things up really well for next week’s finale, and I’m glad CBS was prescient enough to order a second season.

Same. Great episode all around.

What Mariner was typing:

Agreed. This one was great fun.

The music that swelled up was also clearly inspired by the first few ST movies, especially Wrath of Khan.

I am angry this season is only ten episodes long. I’m ready to watch twenty new episodes right now. This is true Star Trek all the way.

There’s a second animated series coming soon-ish. Star Trek: Prodigy.

That was an epic season finale.

So much to unpack. I need to watch it a second time. No laugh out louds from me this episode but I had a huuuuge grin on my face during the climax.

Best line of the episode: “Go, guys, go!” Looks like Captain Mommy isn’t the only one who needs to work on her “going to warp” catchphrase.

Also, the Pakleds were a bold choice to bring back. Next season, it should be these guys.

On rewatching, turns out they were referenced in this episode. Mariner has one of their spiky fightin’ glove thingys.

Terrific season capper. The Pakleds were a great choice for a baddie — they could be plausibly threatening while still dumb as bricks ("Another Enterprise!"). And I laughed out loud at “Peanut Hamper!” And how about that screencap of Kirk and Spock in vintage TAS character design?

It was a fantastic episode - lots of good callbacks and references…

very - very - suprised how it ended up - disappointed in one way, excited in another - and gobsmacked in the last.

The show and the characters got much better as the season went along. The love of Trek the creators have is wonderful. Really enjoyed this by the end.
