Star Trek Nemesis: I saw no wedding

I have seen it written in many places that Troi and Riker got married in “Star Trek: Nemesis”. But I never saw such a scene. Was it deleted or did I miss something?

There was a scene at the beginning of the movie where Picard gave a toast and Data sang. I do not believe that was the wedding, for at least two reasons: (1) Picard told them that they could still back out. (2) Much conversation (in that scene and later) concerned the ceremony to be held later on Betazed.

Some might suggest that there were two ceremonies, the first of which was the one mentioned above. I disagree for two reasons: If so, Picard’s comment that they could still change their minds would make no sense. And I did not notice anything to explicitly say that it really was a wedding to begin with. Granted that they were all dressed in their formal attire, but it might have been a rehearsal dinner or something else.

Yes, there was a point where (following Betazed tradition) Picard referred to Will as “Mr. Troi”, but that could easily be understood as joking about his future title. I didn’t bother to count how many times in the film he continued to be called “Riker”.

Any thoughts?

I thought they might have filmed it, but the deleted scene (?) didn’t show up on the DVD. The real ceremony was to be held on Betazed, as you noted. The “Mr. Troi” comment was a joke.
I did feel ripped off, though. Many of us had been looking forward to the nuptials for years.

Thanks, vivalostwages, I feel vindicated.

Looking forward to see if their are any other viewpoints on the topic…

Wouldn’t everyone be naked at the nuptials, though? Maybe that’s why not show the actual wedding. I remembered some sort of ceremony at the start, but I’m not sure what exactly it was… and I remember thinking “This can’t be the wedding, nobody’s naked!”

Not a problem. IIRC, they handled it okay on tv at Mrs. Troi’s remarriage, by means of careful photography and strategically placed objects to obscure anything that the censors (a.k.a. “Broadcast Standards” people) would object to.

I always took it as a wedding, myself. People have been known to have two marriage ceremonies when they have numerous people they want at their bonding but can’t invite them all to one particular place for one reason or another.

I believe that the nekkidness was going to occur at the upcoming ceremony on Betazed. Wasn’t there a joke about Worf refusing to get naked for that ceremony?

My impression was that there were two ceremonies… the Terran ceremony was where we saw Picard toasting and Data singing. The Betazed ceremony was what they were on their way to, when they were interrupted by plot complications. It basically served as a good excuse to have most of the old crew all together again.

I thought the bit at the start was the Terran wedding reception, to be followed at a later date by a traditional Betazoid ceremony …

From what I understood, there was a traditional “human” wedding on Earth, and they would go to Betazed for the Religious ceremony.
What you saw in the movie was the Reception after the Human wedding.

My favorite part of that scene was Whoopie Goldburg and her comment on being married 5 times

My own favourite part was Wil Wheaton, not talking.

I thought Whoopie’s line was something like “I stopped at 23.”

Someone’s got some semi-serious issues.

Uh, I guess that would be you. A general dislike of the character Wheaton played is common among Star Trek fans, and Nemesis had a weak enough story without throwing in some irrelevant Wesley tangent.

That’s right. Although I thought it was even funnier when Picard mentioned something about going to Betazed for the wedding, and then leaves the bridge, saying “I’ll be in the gym.”
