I saw the trailer for the first time the other day, and as my friend Liz put it:
“I’m insulted. They’re making Star Trek cool.”
I’m not as much as a self-professed nerd as her, but I have to admit, I’ve enjoyed what Star Trek I have seen (with the exception of Voyager and three of the four Enterpirse episodes I’ve seen), but in my experience, when you go to see Star Trek, you’re looking more for sci-fi drama, and this movie looks, well…pretty kick ass. Of course, I have no idea what the hell it’s about, but the visual effects look great, and it looks to be a real guilty pleasure. A few questions though:
-
Who are the bad guys? My roomate loved playing ST games, so I feel a little sheepish for noticing that the insignia they show behind the movie tittle resembles the Romulan insignia, but none of the wicked people they showed looked Romulan.
-
Why the FUCK would Data rebuild Lore? I thought they dismantled and disposed of him for good after that whole Borg Colony thing.
It’s not Lore. It’s “B-9”, another prototype of Data.
It does look cool doesn’t it? What heaven it is to be a Star Trek fan now. We got this down the pipe and the Director’s cut of Khan any day now. I don’t know who the bald guy is, can’t say as I really want to. I think I may go into avoidance phase to be as in the dark as possible when the movie comes out.
The baddies are the Remans, they are Romulans from the other Romulan homeworld mentioned in the first romulan episode, Balance of Terror (someone correct me if it is mentioned in Enterprise Incident). Remus has most of the livable planet in constant darkness, causing the Remans to look like Nosferatu. The ones that aren’t… clones
Tars has a really bad case of clonitius.
His shrink is going to lock him in a room with Jar Jar Binks until he begs for mer…er, is cured of this morbid fascination.
Does anybody know who’s directing Nemesis? I really liked what Frakes did with First Contact, but this seems a very different sort of film.
Just answered my own question (thanks IMDB!)… Stuart Baird’s directing. He’s listed as an editor for a whole bunch of films, most recently Tomb Raider and M-I:2. Looks like this might be his first time in the director’s chair. Should be interesting.
The new movie does look pretty dang cool… Star Trek has its kick-ass moments. The season ending/beginning for Deep Space Nine that featured the Klingon War (I think it was end of Season 5/Beginning of Season 6?) was pretty amazing, and the two-part episode of Voyager which featured an alternate timeline of the Voyager crew fighting against a time-altering tyrant (and Voyager getting ripped to shreds in the process) was one of the best Voyager stories ever. I think it was pretty much a “let’s see how much we can beat up Voyager” type of thing.
Yeah, they can do kick-ass when they try.
Plus they clone Picard, although I think the person that told me this is pulling my leg.
If Jar Jar and i were locked in a room, people outside would be chanting “Two enter, one leaves!” until i emerge with Gungan head on a stick!
Yes, HubZilla they do. Did. Whatever.
Maybe that’s a good idead for a thread…
“If you and Jar Jar Binks were locked in a room…”
Is Nemesis meant to be the last TNG crew movie? They seem to be hinting at that in the trailer…

These guys are Trek Geeks from hell. ^:)^
Try them for rumors, pics and stuff.
The TV Guide 35th Anniversary of Star Trek special issue says that maybe it will, and maybe it won’t. Not much help. I suspect it depends to some degree on how the movie box office compares to what the actors want to be paid for another movie. The article does suggest that there are some reasons to think this will be the last STTNG movie, at least for some of the characters.
If I understood their article, yes, Picard gets cloned, but the clone is not played by the same actor, even though the clone has been artificially aged to adulthood!
[hijack]Anyone else think it was odd that the 35th Anniversary was of the LAST episode of the first season, not the first one?[/hijack]
It all comes down to…$
[sub]damn, that didn’t hid it at all!![/sub]
Has anyone seen the documentary Trekkies? There’s a 15 year old kid who wrote a 156 page ST screenplay called Nemesis, and it’s about a hard core Romulan attack. I can’t remember his name, but is this movie based on his script???
No, it’s based on a comic book drawn with colored markers found on a park bench in Butte, Montana.
^:)^
Yeah, and what’s his name, uh, Chas.E knows who it is, but he can’t tell us because the guy who came up with it, just wants to live a peaceful life in Montana without gushing fans boys overrunning him!
