Bumped.
First episode of Season 3 is out. Anyone seen it yet?
I saw S 1, was not overly impressed and heard bad reviews of S2. Still tempted now.
Can I pick up skipping S2?
Rather than continue the discussion at post 350 in a years-old thread I went ahead and created a Season 3 discussion thread
Wow, no surprise that this show still stinks to high heaven.
Anyway, another review of Picard by these guys
A good honest review that I mostly agree with. Kurtzmanified—that’s how I would summarize the problem with the new Trek. It’s style over substance, and the stories are lacking. When I want to watch good Trek these days, I watch the Orville. It has the feel of the old Trek universe. We’ll see with Picard. I think they need to have more fun with it.
Have you checked out Strange New Worlds? It’s very good. The first few episodes are kind of weak, but it grows much stronger as it goes along, and it’s very “classic Trek” in terms of fun and optimism.
I have checked out and it’s an improvement, for sure, but I still feel a strong Kurtzman influence that I don’t particularly care for. Anson Mount makes for a great Captain Pike, and the cast is pretty good too. Best Star Trek these days is still The Orville, tho, in my opinion.
The shame is I quite liked the big ideas of Season one. I mostly enjoyed all the scenes between Trek vets in season one and two. The production value is off the charts.
Season one didn’t stick the landing. And season two was all just a convoluted thing Q was doing to teach Picard a lesson before he (Q) died??
The seasons just need to be longer to answer all the questions and the whole thing needs someone at a higher level to give it all a look over.
