JERI RYAN LIKED MY COMMENT ON TWITTER! Maybe she likes everyone’s, I didn’t look, but that was pretty cool.
I’ve been back and forth on this season. It’s so dark figuratively and literally, but I’ve liked the last few episodes more and more. I can’t decide if unmothballing the Enterprise-D is corny or genius, but I bawled so I guess it’s a good thing.
My prob with that was it came what felt like seconds after Shaw dies. And Picard is waxing nostalgic while…to them…Raffi and Seven are almost certainly dead. Jeez producers come on…also Raffi and Seven staying behind reminded me of Hardware Wars
“No you go onnnn.”
'Oh a martyr…dumb martyr. Fine Bye."
Is any of this going to dovetail into the quasi-cliffhanger of season 2 with Agnes’ Nuova Borgo asking to be provisional Federation members who are guarding the opening to that killer transwarp conduit which was built by an unknown threat?
I have been positive on this season but I have some complaints about this:
Beverly says no one has seen the Borg in a Decade. We all know that is not true. We saw last season.
Kind of tired of the Borg and I never liked how the Borg changed from a force of nature to a more typical Trek villain just Cybernetic (I understand that is much easier to write but still…).
Having the whole fleet in one place is dumb but the inverse of the Trek cliché of “We’re the only ship in the quadrant” which is also dumb.
“My daughters have been turned into soulless murdering monsters but check out this cool ship I built.”
The fact that the changelings were just lackeys and nothing more is disappointing.
Personal Hot Take: The Enterprise E is much prettier than the D.
Liked seeing Shelby again (albeit briefly before they killed her off)and they used her first name from the novels (which, to be fair, is the actress’ name so not a huge stretch).
Still on board for the finale but this was kind of disappointing.
I’m definitely leaning towards corny. Not everything can just run off of nostalgia; I mean, what are we going to do in twenty years? Being nostalgic for all of that good old-time nostalgia?
But. Still. Seeing the Enterprise-D taking flight again? Yeah.
There’s a lot to hate about episode 9. Everyone standing around with their hands in their pockets as Jack gets in a shuttlecraft and turns himself over to the person they’ve been running away from for 8 episodes. The Titan rushing into an incredibly dangerous situation with no plan. The fact that even if the heroes win next episode the bad guys have already managed to kill a significant fraction of the senior personnel in Starfleet. The tonal whiplash from Shaw dying and Seven and Raffi left to die (they probably won’t) to everyone standing around grinning on the bridge of the D. The fact that despite the show actually building an Enterprise D bridge set it looks like they’re all standing in front of a green screen for most of the shots.
For me, none of that is as bad as the detail of how the Borg infected Starfleet with Picard’s subverted DNA: Transporters apparently use “basic templates” to compensate for the sheer amount of information involved in transporting people. This means using a transporter is subjecting yourself to a form of lossy compression, and there’s no guarantee what comes out the other side is exactly the same as what went in. Transporters are already an ontological nightmare, this makes them even worse.
Well if we’re quibbling…I feel ‘25’ is too young to account for every ship being taken over so easily (but one)…I guess now that I thought about it, having Changelings aboard the vessels can turn the tide.
Not only is the fleet formation tech dangerous, its dumb.
Its practically IMPOSSIBLE for that to be the entire fleet. Even granted that the Feds are enjoying a level of alpha quadrant dominance never seen before. The Federation is huge and would still have minor adversaries that have to be watched. Nevermind escort vessels …etc…
Shatner actually responded to me once when he was going on about not wanting to be bothered at dinner and I asked “What if someone wants to buy your dinner or buy you a drink”
He said, “No, cause they may think there are strings attached.”
I’ve also tried to communicate to Eric McCormack that his Shatner impression is easily the most realistic I’ve heard…but dunno if he got the message.
