Star Trek Picard Season 3 discussion (open spoilers)

There’s still time to bring him back. It’s Star Trek. They could put him in stasis, or Seven could use her Borg nanoprobes, or something else.

I think they should show the finale in 4:3 aspect ratio.

That’s a GREAT idea!!

I thought of that and hope they do, but kind of undercuts how well he portrayed his death.

I said the same thing (see post 166 above). It’s a pretty obvious plot lift.

And I also refer you to a previous post of mine:

Did a search on Durkon/Durkula, but you alas didn’t use those names. I’d sue if I were Rich.

Quibbles:

I had heard Q was going to show…so when he didn’t, I was glad, cause I could only see him appearing for Jean-Luc if Picard died. So I was deathly afraid everyone was going to go home and Q show up as a last patron at the bar.

…then…he did show up. It’s too much. Any Star Trek Legacy show should be about the crew and not Jack Crushers cosmic trial/journey. Etc…its too much. You’re writing yourself into a corner making that cliffhanger. Also FFS, if you do make a Trek Legacy show, please turn up the lights on The Titan.

I thought for sure Seven’s engage line was going to be “Let’s see what’s out there”

Making The Titan Enterprise-F is kind of a slap in both the ships faces. They should be naming other ships Titan as an honor, not renaming a smallish exploratory vessel a name usually reserved for a top of the line ship.

Overall I loved it. Relied too much on nostalgia and had more endings then Lord of the Rings, but overall I loved it.

I haven’t watched it yet but it would be only fair if the final episode of Picard is about Johnathan Archer trying to work out a problem in a holodeck.

Enterprise-G, actually. I guess the F got to have a heroic moment coming out of spacedock and, kablooie?

Is there a name for the trope of “One of the worst disasters known to us has occurred and we’re just glossing it over?”

Kind of like the first Avengers movie?

As mentioned up thread, the senior component of Starfleet has been decapitated. And all those destroyed starships! This is the worst disaster since The Dominion War. And they better get those planetary shields online cause Earth is about to get Skylabbed a hundred times over.

That said, nice to see Earth Defense get their shit together as opposed to Best of Both Worlds II when all they had to throw at the Borg cube was some suicide pods.

Enjoyed the finale - hit all the right notes. And I thought of the perfect way to bring back Shaw - as a hologram that Seven relies on for advice.

This is quite possibly the best Star Trek has ever been, as good as Strange New Worlds or Star Trek II. I just wish the Enterprise-D didn’t move like a swallow, it’s way too big for that. But at least they were consistent in that regard, the earlier shows did that as well and it bugged an earlier me the same way. Eye candy aside, this was as solid a story as anyone could ask for; it felt like Star Trek for grups. If they keep up this level of quality I’d be happy to watch Seven and Jack tool around in the Enterprise-G.

…I didn’t like that at all.

I didn’t mind the fan service. In fact, I LOVED the fan service. I would have loved an entire season of just the old crew hanging around going on min-adventures.

I didn’t like everything else. The tonal shifts throughout the show just ruin everything for me. I didn’t like that they (probably) killed Shelby, didn’t like that they killed Shaw, I didn’t like that thousands of old starfleet officers probably got murdered, spacedock got destroyed. And then we kinda just forget all of that happened.

I hated that Picard was wrong about almost every decision he made this season, that he got plenty of innocent people killed, and he still ended up the hero.

The story didn’t need the meanness, the cruelty, the “tension” because ultimately it didn’t mean anything. The disposable characters played their part and got disposed of. While the heroes all managed to live and save the day. They were never in any danger. So there wasn’t any need to pretend that they were.

And it was the same thing in all the other seasons. It could have been great (for me.) SO many good things. But they weren’t enough to make me like the show. I know I’m going against the grain here. But yeah, not happy feelings after that one from me.

President Anton Chekov — nice double shot there.

I didn’t like that all it took was love to save the day… nor two different major call backs to Star Wars, a good callback to Serenity (among a few others I’m sure) — but overall, a good ending and send off. Much better, by far, than either of the two previous seasons.

Did we really need Q to return?

You fold - you always fold - guess what - I’m all in!

I enjoyed it but I didn’t love it. I thought ending it with a poker game was cute and a nice reference to All Good Things…

Nitpick wise, everyone assumes President Chekov is the SON of Pavel Chekov, but I’m glad they didn’t outright say it because FFS!!..Is Raffi the only age-appropriate person with offspring around? Between Bev and Jean-Luc and now this?

This would be like someone born in 1866 having a kid alive today. Completely possible, especially by TNG standards but still. Besides given the quote…maybe Spock was Anton Chekovs father.

Speaking of Raffi…its kind of disgusting how her family wants to be close to her…NOW that she’s a galactic hero.

Yeah could be and probably is a grandson. Something I saw pointed out but did not notice myself was that he was almost certainly named after Anton Yelchin who played Chekov in the JJ movies and died suddenly and very young.

So apparently starbase shields can handle the sustained fire of the entirely of Starfleet for about half an hour?

They must have upgraded after the Texas-class incident.

I’ve always been rather puzzled by the cloaking device. It seems so useful, so why isn’t it used more often?
Surely it ought to be standard equipment on all starships by now?

There is a treaty with the Romulans that the Federation will not use them.
