We also have to see the accident that left him in the chair with the lights that beep.
Aren’t the events of “The Cage” already in the past of Strange New Worlds? I suppose a flashback episode or episodes is possible.
Yep, if the timeline holds, “The Cage” was in 2254, SNW has covered 2259-2261 (presumably will end in 2263) , and “Where No Man Has Gone Before” is 2265. Pike is supposed to get injured in 2266
The events of The Cage were visited in Discovery’s If Memory Serves episode.
But in the words of a different show, it gets timey wimey…
Given that recent Star Trek shows have futuristic medical science, it is hard to imagine Pike ending up as he did in the original series.
The way Vulcan Pike acted reminded me more of Beldar Conehead than a Vulcan. And he very well could have been hiding an entire cone head inside that amazing Vulcanized high-top fade.
Also, am I the only one who recognized the glaring error when Pelia mistakenly referred to the drug as LSD and not its correct name of LDS? She really let down the Free Speech movement at Berkley.
Callback to the reverse mistake by Kirk in STIV?
Was Pike there for that? I thought that was just Spock and Michael Burnham.
Vina was psychically projected to his ready room, some catching up, then Michael got on the call … or something like that?
That scene was so fun.
When they made the first reference to half a Vulcan, I reckoned spock was having primary school bullying flash backs.
Thanks. I just went back to watch it.
Thanks, I almost missed it.
I just watched the episode and I thought it was freaking hilarious. I caught on before my husband what was going on with the security officer. Of course she’d be Romulan.
Patton Oswalt is fantastic and I bet he was over the moon to play this role. I’ll bet he ad-libbed a lot, too.
I didn’t care for episodes 1 & 2 but I think overall this season smashes. Has anyone noticed how thirsty this crew is? It’s not just Sexy Spock.
I’m certain the entire post-credit sequence was improvised - probably cut from an hour of Oswalt riffing and Peck trying to keep up.
I have not watched too many episodes of TOS and I have a feeling if I go back to it, I’m going to be disappointed. I also wonder about the original Spock and whether he could be as good as Peck. We’ll probably watch it eventually. My husband wants me to see the original Gorn episodes.
I caught the Aliens and zombie references, curious if that episode with the Temple of Doom was riffing off anything? Particularly the, um, developments with the ensign?
All one of them?
I guess so. We watched the Pike episode(s?) before starting SNW, though I missed whatever he was doing in Disco because we didn’t finish it. It was pretty shitty about disability.
Note: I never remember anything I watch, for very long. So I can’t remember if it was a two -parter or not.
Nimoy was the real acting standout in TOS. In fact, he was nominated for best supporting actor all 3 seasons.
That’s great. Maybe I will get something out of it then. I didn’t realize the show had any acclaim at the time it aired.
The series was actually nominated for Outstanding Dramatic Series for the first 2 seasons. Hard to believe until you realize what the competition was like back then.
In 1967 the 5 series were Mission Impossible (winner), The Avengers, I Spy, Star Trek & Run for Your Life(???).
I never heard of the last. Looks like an interesting format of every changing locations and cast as a dying man travels the world. Bucket List the Show.
Star Trek had a bunch of more technical noms also: Star Trek (TV Series 1966–1969) - Awards - IMDb
So… We watched the TOS Gorn episode. It was pretty bad. Really, mostly just very boring. I agree, though, that Nimoy offered a kind of natural gravitas.
Is it me, or does Nic Cage channel Shatner?
