The Empire definitely needs to invest in de-icing tech.
I have moderately high expectations. I liked Abrams’ first Trek film and I am expecting a similar level of quality with this one.
In general I am excited about Disney and Star Wars . If they play it right there will be decades of entertaining films for us and massive profits for them. I hope they open out the franchise to other directors and timelines. I would like to see what the likes of Whedon and Nolan can do within Star Wars; for example a Fireflyesque film about the early adventures of Solo and Lando could be great.
Well there’s plenty of that planned, though maybe not for any of the bigger names.
I dunno how to feel about this, I mean I understand WHY Disney is trying to distance themselves from the prequel stink(even cancelling Clone Wars) but this new movie seems to be copying the OT so much it is silly. The villain is not only a cyborg sith that copied his own helmet after Vader’s, apparently he even owns Vader’s burned out helmet and has long Hamlet style monologues with it.
Ditto TIE fighter and X-wing designs and Storm Trooper armor not changing a bit in more than three decades, the Millenium Falcon, back on freaking Tattooine?!
Let me guess the force sensitive young female character…Obi-Wan’s daughter?
It just seems like they are damn determined this time around to capture the nostalgia market.
Just realized the timeline wouldn’t work out unless Obi was shagging in his bitchin’ desert pad like five seconds before he went out and found Luke and R2.

The EU was still really bad with this. The Knights of the Old Republic ostensibly took place 4000 years before the rise of the Galactic Empire at the end of Episode 3, but technology is effectively the same. The main ship – the Ebon Hawk is basically the Falcon. Sure, you don’t see astromech droids or protocol droids, but you see similar droids that fulfill similar functions and don’t really seem an worse than, say, R2.
It was to the point where you honestly begin to wonder if the Death Star was the first actual technological achievement in 20000 years or so.
Lucas has talked about how he was kind of planning(and yes, direct) to make the movies when Disney showed up with $4 billion to let them do it. Not a bad offer.
And he gets to spend time with his youngest and I assume the rest of his family.
My fanwank is that technology in the Star Wars universe essentially peaked some five to ten thousand years ago, when they found there are physical limits to the practical applications of science. In video game terms, they maxed out their tech tree ages ago. Things like the Death Star don’t represent any real innovation in tech, just in scale.
Meanwhile, Force users are discovering new things about the mystical world at an ever increasing pace, as the sentients of the galaxy begin their eventual evolution into beings of pure energy, as Obi-Wan and Yoda have already done.
Works for me.
Rumors are that the new trailer, which will be screening with Avengers 2, will show Han, Leia, and Luke.
If Luke is a mysterious part of the story and doesn’t show up until mid-way in the movie, I kind of hope they hide his appearance and footage until we’re in the theater. I just think that’d be cool.

Rumors are that JJ Abrams wants the movie moved to an earlier release date. I guess he thinks he can get the movie done and wants it to sit “in the can” for too long.

I assume a new trailer that shows Luke, Han, and Leia. Even just glimpses would get a huge reaction from the internet and crowds.

I wonder when people will stop bitching about Lucas and the last 3 movies. Around the time of Episode 107 I guess.
