A string of shitty movies and TV series already killed Trek by the time Abrams came along. It’s not like he could have made things worse at that point.

Very weird phrasing to say “unedited”. They must mean that it is not the final edit, the film is not finished, temporary score, etc. I bet it was 85% done in the copy they let him watch.

Seeing it on YouTube does not at all compare to seeing it on the big screen (yes, I am Captain Obvious).
It was pretty awesome to experience the Star Wars sounds again in a theater.
