Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds - WHY?

OK, I admit to being a SW fan. Not to the point of dressing up and waiting in line, but I do like the films and have enjoyed the whole SW thing for almost my entire life.

I just got a new computer and while loading up everything that wouldn’t run on my old machine I decided to try out Galactic Battlegrounds . What a waste of time. It took me about to two minutes to figure out that “blue=wood”, “purple=stone” and then I used my AOE II plan to finish the battle. This game looks more like a user mod than a $40 game! It is AOE II with no changes except a transport into the SW world! Come on, “rotational research” or some such nonsense that will allow my laser turrets to not have a minimum range? This research is equivalent to “murder holes” in the Middle Ages?

Apparently there is also an expansion pack for this thing. Am I missing something here? Or did LucasArts just say “We need a SW RTS out there - just throw buckets of cash at Microsoft until they let us license their AOE II engine”?

Does anyone know how many copies of this game LucasArts sold? Was anyone else as disappointed with this game as I was?

Try Age Of Mythology if you want a more significant advancement on the theme.

So its AOE? So what? AOE was really good, and Galactic Battlegrounds was another variation. The missions are pretty fun, and there is a lot fo character to it. Anyway, they do add in airpower and units are blindingly quick.

Remember, this came out not too long after AOEII. Its an older game, now. Besides, there are only so many technologies you can come up with.

The reviews when it came out were pretty bad, if I recall correctly.
