I’d imagine a Civil War era rifle would be a good bit heavier than a plastic phaser/blaster, thus, better club. Plus they have those bayonettes. And even a projectile-less cannon can have an effect when the damn thing goes off within a 100 yards of you (yay Aggie football games).

As for plastic phasers vs. plastic light sabers, it’s worth noting that Trekkies of the Captain Kirk school of Trekking will be proficient in the Judo Chop.

Give us some Bamboo and a few basic minerals and we’ll summon up our Gorn learned lessons in advanced primitive projectile weapon manufacturing.

I’d be a lot more impressed if you could produce the Photon Mortar from the same episode (what is it with Trek with introducing awesomely kick-ass weapons, and then never using them again? Photon Mortar, the transporter-equipped sniper rifle, etc. )

I am a member of a Star Trek club, just turned in my app/cash for the SCA, hang out with members of a SW group, I am on the ConComm of a major regional science fiction convention, and am a current member and past officer of a local science fiction lit club. Not to mention I have, in the past, been a member of a Whovian society, a general British Science Fiction club, and I was one of the founding members of my high school’s computer club way back in the early 80s. That means I win. Or at least have to stay on the meds to keep me from arguing with myself

Which convention? I’m the Dealers’ Room Director for a student-run sci-fi con in Texas (That’s right! We’re geeks who carry revolvers, double-barreled shotguns, ride horses, and we ALL own pickup trucks and wear big hats! We don’t all wear cowboy boots though, that’d be silly. )

I was going to try sending you a private message, but it seems I’m not allowed to do that on SDMB.

Oh, and back on topic: Can the B5 fans mix it up in this if they can find a way to make Minbari Fighting Pikes?

If my mother was as bad as Janeway, I’ve never want to have anything to do with her either. Fortunatly, my mother doesn’t constantly trot out rules that don’t apply to the situation at hand(the Prime Directive) while contantly ****ing up their chances to get home.

The fact Janeway got promoted instead of Court Martialed is more proof that starfleet is run by idiots(Item #1,274 on the list).

Trekkies would cut a side deal with the Batman Fanboys to fight the overly diplomatic Trekkers and StarWar fans.
If this failed we would take a page from Kirk’s book and rewrite the rules to the fight to somehow favors us.

OK, points for distinguishing between Trekkers & Trekkies.
