Well the citizens of the republic must be dumb as bags of rocks, they didn’t notice the fact that the military in the prequel era was copying sith designs from thousands of years prior?
Not really feeling the love the second time around in SW:TOR, now that it’s free… I’m thinking of switching to Imperial so I can kick some puppies or something, but even then, those Sith are wound just a little too tight…
And yeah, there seem to be startlingly few people paying attention to history and when they do, it’s all ancient, dead civilizations from thousands of years ago.
I read this as Old Republic prosthetic choices. Well, Darth Vader went for the full on cyborg exoskeleton, while Luke chose a more natural skin tone over robotic hardware. Prothetic technology must have been pretty advanced, what with all the dismembering going on.
Um if anyone is curious WTF I meant it is that if you believe the game The Old Republic the design of the capital ships and shuttles used by the republic starting with the clone wars is an exact copy of the sith empire ships in the old republic. One wonders why no citizens noticed, be a bit like if the USA military started using skull and crossbones and swastikas and said it was pure coincidence.
cough cough
Current use of the Skull & crossbones: VFA-103
The Swastika is more problematic… But is was used in the badge for the U.S. 45th Infantry Division, but that was changed in 1939. link
It helps to think of SW:TOR as taking place 200 years AFTER Return of the Jedi with both light and dark sides trying to fill the void left by losing so many high levels of government.
Well, except that it’s pretty solidly established that it’s happening a couple thousand years before.
It’s honestly just a problem of game design trumping lore concerns. People who aren’t massively invested in lore and EU continuity (which is most of them) see a Star Wars game and want the bad guys to have gray triangular ships and fighters with side wings and octagonal windows. Otherwise, it will lose the “feel” of a Star Wars game to them, even if it has lightsabers.
:dubious: It’s set over 3500 years before the movies.
Edit: Beaten to the punch!
Game design should always trump lore concerns to sell more copies of your game.
