I’ve seen minor buzz around here, so for anyone interested but not following the game obsessively enough to catch updates as they happen they just opened up the signup page tonight. You need a community account on swtor.com to sign up, but other than that it’s just filling out the standard licence agreement/whatever forms.
Honestly, I doubt it’s first come, first served so it may serve you best to just wait a day or two. The servers are timing out like mad right now, good luck actually getting through all three signup steps without being sent back to the ToA page.
Either way, just though people may want to know, we can turn this into a hype thread/discussion or whatever.
ETA: BTW, you have to use Firefox 3.0+ or IE7+ to use the computer specs submit tool, I just tried on Chrome because FF was bugging out on the site and it yelled at me.
Yeah they got… stormed, that was also up it when I tried to log on yesterday out of boredom (that’s how I found out), they must have had another spike and decided they needed to fix it even more.
I should clarify the thread title a tad, it’s focus testing moreso than an actual closed Beta. You probably won’t be able to do “anything with minor restraints and focus weekends” like most betas, the way the FAQ sounds it’s going to be more like “congrats, you’ve been selected to test level 15-20 PvP for the force using classes this weekend” than what most people think of for beta testing. Either way, it should still be pretty cool.
Inside information (aka I asked someone whose relative works there) is that the announcement is kind of an oopsie. They’re really not ready for even a closed beta yet, far as I hear.
