If anybody’s ever read the book Stardust by Neil Gaiman–it is, incidentally, absolutely brilliant–they’re making a movie out of it with an all-star cast (Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Jason Flemyng…)
I love Claire Danes. I really do. Think she’s marvelous.
But I’ve gotta say, girl don’t look anything like how I pictured Yvaine looking in the book. Oh, well. I still want to see the film, regardless of the casting choices.
Mirrormask was gorgeously creepy. I keep telling myself that if that’s what Neil (and brethren) could do with a small budget, Stardust with its huge budget should hopefully be fantastic…
I love Claire Danes and can’t wait to see her in this. I have not read the book but am still looking forward to the movie. I will probably read the book after I see the movie so I will not have any expectations all though I am sure they would not be let down based on that trailer.
I thought the book was okay, not all that memorable. I like Gaiman, but Stardust never stood out to me as one of his best. Not bad, but not fabulous. I was excited when I had a chance to see the movie last month, but it was really disappointing. Try to imagine how poorly The Princess Bride would have turned out if Wesley and Buttercup were unlikable, uncharasmatic, and utterly one-dimensional. No amount of fun, well-played supporting characters could have saved that movie, right? Same deal here. It looks beautiful, but since the main characters are crushingly dull, it’s hard to care about anything. DeNiro was awesome, and it’s nice to see Michelle Pfeiffer in a movie again, but even they don’t make me want to see it a second time. If I had seen this movie when I was eight, I probably would have loved it, but not anymore.
Well I am going to give it a chance it looks really good and I am excited about it. I like Claire Danes so I am sure she will pull off a great performance. DeNiro looks like he is fantastic but I don’t know what he is not good in.
