Stargate SG-1 Question (old stuff, but possibly still spoilers)

How did Sam’s dad wind up with a symbiote?

I’ve been watching SG-1 for a while now, but I missed the beginning of the series; even though I’ve been watching reruns every now and then for the past few years, I’ve managed to never see the episode that explains Sam’s dad.

Anyone feeling generous enough (and have a good enough memory) to clue me in?

He was dying of cancer and Selmak’s symbiote had been killed somehow (I can’t recall). Carter was an Air Force general IIRC and fit the bill to save Selmak and solidify relations with the Tok’ra.

Selmk is the symbiote. His previous host was dying of IIRC extreme old age having been around for a few centuries.

Yes, sorry, I meant to say Selmak’s host.

And I meant to spell Selmak with an a.

Oh! I didn’t know that the senior Carter was AF before the whole symbiote thing – part of what I wondered was how he got involved enough to know about symbiotes in the first place. Him being former AF explains a lot.

Thanks!

Jacob Carter was a 2 star general like Gen. Hammond before he got joined with Selmak.

And… Misnomer, the Sci-Fi channel shows an episode every weekday at 5 pm CST, and on Monday nights, they play 4 episodes back to back from 6 pm CST on a different schedule than the 5 pm ones.

It’s a great way to get caught up! The 5 pm episodes just reset about a week or two ago, and the Monday night ones are at the end of the second season right now.

Anyone catch Friday’s 1 1/2 hour episode? Err… I mean Friday’s reairing of the “Quantum Leap” finale?

I thought Friday’s episode was one of the best in a while.

So did I. But it doesn’t change the fact that it was nearly identical to the QL finale. Only an appearance by D-Day would have made it more similar.

“The Tok’ra” parts I and II come right in the middle of seasom two. Looks they they aired on Monday just a couple of weeks ago, so you’ll have to wait a while for it to come around again.

Just to fill in a couple details- Jacob Carter was not “in” on the Stargate program until they suggested he become host to Selmak. This was done because a) he was dying and b) SG-1 & co. needed a gesture to help secure the friendship of the Tok’ra.

Actually, I was thinking of the ST:TNG series finale, “All Good Things.” Just swap the poker game for fishing in O’Neil’s backyard.

Yep, I know: I’m usually still at work at 6pm EST, and on Mondays I don’t get home (from work and grad school) until 10:30pm. :frowning: BUT this week is spring break, so last night I was able to get in some good SG-1 watchin’ – including the “1969” episode, which I hadn’t seen before. It’s what reminded me to finally ask about Sam’s dad.

I taped it, and haven’t watched it yet … hopefully tonight. So in the meantime: LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU!

Like I said, I always seem to miss that part when early episodes are being aired! It’s a conspiracy, I tell ya…

Thanks!
