Starting to hate 'Love'

‘Love. It’s what makes a Subaru a Subaru.’

BASF has a ‘Love and Chemistry’ commercial.

It seems as if Love is the new theme for commercials recently. Subaru has been using Love for quite a while, but this year we’re seeing more commercials that equate a product with Love. I’m getting a bit tired of them.

On a related note, there’s a Subaru commercial where a mother lists all of the ‘firsts’ her daughter has had in a Subaru. I wish someone would go the extra step and say, ‘… And it’s where she lost her virginity in the back seat.’

A couple year ago I decided to give disco a chance and check out some disco hits from the 70s.

My god the overuse of “love” in song titles was insane, even compared to the usual overuse of love as a lyric or concept in music.

“Love to love your love my lover”

“Love loving lover’s love”

“Love me true, love you too”

You get the idea.

LOVE

Welcome to Costco. I love you.

Whenever I read ‘Made with Love’ on a pretentious food item, it just makes me think of a court case at a pizza place where I used to live, where the cook for arrested for masturbating with the dough.

Probably not the mental image they’re going for. Probably not a mental image you wanted either- sorry about that.

With the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S, would you prefer the campaign were, “The badge. It’s what makes a Subaru a Toyota?”
