You know what? I don’t give a tinker’s cuss who Kavanaugh, Franken, Clinton et all are. I honestly don’t give a flying fuck. You Americans can fight out whether the Dems or the Repubs are the most/least upstanding citizens in your country… what the fuck ever.
But at the end of the day, SA and his cronies are attempting to minimize the effect of sexual assault on ALL women. Not just the ones who have been assaulted by men in official positions of power, but ALL women. Women like me. Women like my best friend. Women like ALL THE OTHER WOMEN WHO POSTED TO THAT OTHER THREAD here in the pit.
This is NOT a partisan issue. This is not really all that much to do with Kavanaugh’s nomination. This is accepting that women have a voice to say NO, and enough is enough.
And if it brings your fave SC nominee down…then sucks to be him I guess.
Another thing to point our about Franken and the outrage we had with a Democratic politician’s sex scandal was partly because (mostly for me) he was ACCUSED OF ACTING LIKE A REPUBLICAN! I wanted resignation so when certain burnt-sienna loving troglodytes say we do the same thing with sex scandals, we can at least say we do it without wasting time! 
At at no time did Franken say he, with the grace of baby Jesus, would begin a path of healing, or “hey I’m going to family counseling where my loving wife and daughters…” blah blah blah or some shit like that.
We have to expect a higher level of decorum when looking at future SC Justices. That decorum should start at all other appointed positions too, so that’s another reason many of us called for Franken’s and other politicians’ resignations.
Let me guess: you also think the OJ Simpson verdict cleared the way for men to know they are free to beat and murder their wives. Amiright?

BTW, the reason that attempted rape is topical is the question: Should a man who attempted rape and then lied about it be appointed to the highest Court in the land? Has Mr. Artist taken a stand on that issue? When he attempted his rapes, did he, like Kavanaugh, cover the mouths of his victims so their cries couldn’t be heard?

Those last two words are revealing, and it exemplifies something I pointed out on the #whyIdidn’t report thread.
On some level, there’s a perverse instinct to attack vulnerable people, in the same way that a dog instinctively attacks a small child for no apparent reason. It’s just the animal coming out, and beneath the thin veneer of civility, there it is: the savage primate. I’m convinced that we all actually possess this instinct on some level. I think it partially explains things like schadenfreude. However, most of us, through good parenting and being around other good citizens and influences, have learned to suppress these instincts. Most people have replaced these raw instincts with things like empathy and compassion.
Humans balance these cooperative instincts like empathy and compassion with our innate competitive instincts, which compel us to go after the weaklings and to drive them out of the tribe so that we can have more space around the campfire and watering hole. It’s interesting that SA used the word ideology, because conservative ideology is one that favors individual competition over collective cooperation. He’s just being the asshole who wants to drive other individuals out of the population so he can take more shit for himself. Whether you’re someone born with a congenital birth defect or a rape victim, “people” like SA don’t care: they’d rather you just not get in their way. They want “victims” to stay out of sight, keep their mouths shut. They have no rights, unless they’re in the upper tax bracket of course.
The only “2 sides” relevant to this topic are those who are against assault and those who are for. Accusing people of being lefties and democrats as if that has anything to do with it is, frankly, nuts. (and as a non-american, such an accusation is not only crazy, but ridiculous. Don’t know who all these other blokes are, or what bill clinton did, my “lack of outrage” could be explained by knowing nothing whatsoever about it.)
Believing that assault is wrong accords with the criminal law. I’m on the side that thinks the law matters and that you don’t put your hands on ANYONE without permission. The seriousness of an assault, if you are charged and convicted, is relevant only to sentence. It has nothing to do with whether you should be charged. Nor has “some other bloke did worse!”
FFS, the only thing worse than the attempted rape justifications is the irrationality of the “arguments” raised. What the hell is “victim ideology”? (don’t try to answer, I have no interest in hearing another barrage of crazy irrationality)
