Thanks for the ATMB thread. I wasn’t mentally ready for that, and I’ve seen that the people actually directly affected seem to get better results. (I actually think my posting a thread might have made it where mods were less likely to listen.)
I’d like to paraphrase something that Girl Wonder - herself a survivor of sexual assault - said as she read this response over my shoulder:
“No one would like us to be able to get past these events and live happy lives more than [the victims] would.”
At work today I was with my training cohort, one white female (51), one wannabe (35–Honey, you’re white and from Bridgeport. You aren’t ‘street.’) black woman, and two black women (20s). I’m a white guy pushing elderly, and can you believe that I was the one defending and understanding the reluctance to report of the women in the news? Ladies, you need to get your sisters to understand.
But with Starving Artist, it’s pointless. He has these irrational ideas and nothing will make him abandon them. I can’t believe that posters have actually engaged in “debate” about whether it is all a republican plot against him that somebody disagrees that you can’t go about molesting woman. You can’t argue with a delusion. It’s pointless.

So why is anyone engaging with him and “debating” with him and answering his nonsense? What’s the point? No right-minded individual thinks that rape is not serious and no healthy mind gives consideration to whom they would like to rape. He’s the only one who disagrees with that.
There is a very sad undertow of women who also blame victims. They live under a rock or are delusional. Or are protecting an abusive man. They can be as vicious as men toward their victimized sisters. I have more hope that they can be taught better. So there’s that.
You know, it’s possible for a man to talk to women about something without “mansplaining.” And it doesn’t sound like he was telling them how they ought to feel, he was talking about how it does not surprise him if other people feel a certain way.
As far as this thread is concerned, I think the title should be changed:
Starving Artist thinks any Pit thread calling him out is candy.
They need to believe they have escaped assault by more than luck, that there is some benefit to supporting those with power. It’s a kind of Stockholm Syndrome, no different from poor men voting for the party that lowers inheritance and corporate taxes.
Blaming victims is not unique to women.
Because it often is enlightening to figure out exactly where his nonsense goes off the rails and what made it crash in the first place. When you turn over the rocks in a Starving Artist post, to vary the metaphor a bit, you frequently find some interesting crawling survivals of primitive thought that have a powerful influence on a lot of popular ideology throughout our society.
I only wish he were. Sadly, there are a whole lot of other people in the right-wing media echo chamber being fed the same nonsensical talking points about “victim culture” and “witch hunts” and “liberal divisiveness” and “war on men”, etc., that Starving Artist so faithfully regurgitates here. ISTM that there is value in thinking seriously about this propaganda and exactly what it gets wrong, rather than just dismissing it as a bunch of stupid fucking assholery not worth talking about.
Mind you, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with just calling Starving Artist names in the Pit and leaving it at that, if that’s what someone feels like doing: that’s what the Pit is for, after all. I’m just saying that IMHO there are also some valid reasons to pay his illogical rantings the compliment of rational opposition, as Jane Austen put it.
Yeah, no. That’s not how dogs operate. They don’t “instinctively attack small children”. Obviously. No one would have domesticated dogs in the first place if they couldn’t help themselves from attacking children. And they don’t attack for no reason. There’s always a reason. It might be a stupid reason. But if a dog attacks, it’s because he has a reason.
And animals - even primates - aren’t “savages” or, on the other hand, “civilized”. They’re just animals. They do animal things. It’s not right or wrong. It’s just what they are.
Starving Artist is not an animal. He is garbage that walks like a man. He does garbage things. His mind forms garbage reasons which he expresses with garbage words that leak from his gaping void like a filthy diaper floating on a stream of vomit. He is pollution. He is taint. He is corruption.
Of course he thinks attempted rape is acceptable. I mean, it’s just what he is.
In fact, many dogs are instinctively protective of human children, as the kids trigger their “puppy care” reflex. That’s not to deny that some dogs do attack children, but attacking children is by no means a universal instinct in dogs. As you point out, such a trait would have been eliminated in selective breeding of dogs by humans pretty quickly.
Saving Starving Artist is a lost cause. But I think of the young people who might be reading these posts. What might happen to an impressionable mind if they see somebody saying that holding a woman down while you try to tear her clothes is acceptable behavior? Especially if that post goes unchallenged?
No, we need to call Starving Artist on his nonsense. We need to point out that he is wrong and no normal person agrees with him. And we need to laugh at him. We need to save that young person who might otherwise grow up to be a Starving Artist.
That is so bad. You should be ashamed.
Starving Artist would be satisfied if people like you were to call him only on what he actually said, instead of on the ridiculous extrapolations and exaggerations that you and people like you constantly engage in.

I’ll mail you a check for $100 if you can prove I ever said that holding a woman down while tearing at her clothes is acceptable behavior.
I expect crickets to ensue, just like they did when I made the same challenge to her.
You people can’t debate these issues honestly to save your lives. If anyone in this thread should feel shame, it’s you and everyone like you who can’t argue or even discuss the issues amongst yourselves without lying about what your opponent has said.
