There were clips that aired on Seth Meyers where Republicans were saying that they shouldn’t invite Biden to deliver the SotU, with some of the clips going back to a year or so ago.
I have a bad habit of perusing the comments on my local news channel’s FB posts (I know, I know) and the word there well before the speech was that they were planning to pump Biden full of Adderall beforehand. When he was a few minutes late this only fueled the fire; clearly the first load hadn’t done the job and they had to re-dose him.
Of course, now they’re horrified that a President would be so un-Presidential as to raise his voice or invoke politics during a such a sacred occasion as a SOTU. So many clutched pearls.

– I didn’t watch the response; partly because I needed to go to bed, and partly because I didn’t know if I could stand to. I did catch a large portion of Biden’s speech, though I came in late and missed the early part. I was originally intending to watch just for a few minutes, but he kept me watching till the end. Go, go, Railroad Joe: ride right over the Republicans. (Metaphorically, of course.)
And without noting that Trump is also old. There’s not enough age difference between them to matter.
I’d sure as hell have voted against the idiot in the primaries.
And if he won anyway: it would become a question of exactly what “aligned more closely with mine” meant. Wanting to write the tax code according to Reaganomics is one kind of thing. Wanting to void the peaceful transfer of power is another sort of thing entirely. I’m also reminded of the state election some years ago in which the actual Nazi David Duke was running against a convicted criminal. There were bumper stickers saying “Vote for the crook. It’s important.”
Good point – and it’s encouraging to see that so many Republicans have done just that. But the real question is, will they stand by their convictions by sitting out the general (or actually voting for Biden)?
I had cut over to Fox News right after the address to see how they were spinning it. Funny how their narrative of lost-a-step sleepy Joe suddenly became “he seems very angry, like a cranky old man”.
Trump White House pharmacy improperly provided drugs and misused funds, Pentagon report says.
The unit lacked effective controls to ensure compliance with safety standards, was not subject to oversight by Military Health System leaders, and increased the risk to patient health and safety, the report said.
The unit spent $46,500 from 2017-2019 on 8,900 unit doses of Ambien, a brand name sleeping medication, which was 174 times more than the $270 the generic equivalent would have cost for the same amount of doses. It spent $98,000 on 4,180 unit doses of Provigil, a brand name stimulant, 55 times more than the $1,800 the generic equivalent would have cost, the report found.
Both drugs were disbursed without verifying patient identities. Opioids and sleeping medications were not properly accounted for and were tracked using error-filled or unreadable handwritten records, the report said.
This article discusses the possible international reaction to the State of The Union. I know Putin and Israel would prefer Trump, but what about CHYNA?
Definitely. I think this SOTU is the one where we’ll look back at it as a “jumps the shark” moment into that type of interrupting/banter/look at me behavior. Partly because Biden was engaging in it as well, and often.
It doesn’t have to be that way. The NFL has it right, don’t show or talk about the streakers because it will only encourage them - it’s quite literally a “look at me” scenario. There’s a rule against wearing campaign paraphernalia, enforce it. I’m sure there are others, or should be, enforce them.
With Biden engaging with it, very well I would add, I think it’s here to stay. House of Commons is fun to watch, though.
