Agree with every word of the first sentence. My big take away was that he shifted to a new topic without warning but that is a small complaint. He was kind and folksy and uniting. Despite the fact that some of his pet projects were not passed and sent for him to sign into law – he made a new appeal for them showing that he really cares. I hope it moves some congresspeople.
Yes, the two people who shouted out were Boebert and Greene. What low class, self aggrandizing, despicable humans they have revealed themselves to be. Whatever they did say has not made any news source I have seen.
(And yes, I found that Alex Walker video. It took all of 35 microseconds to find it on google. Definitely a non-traditional political campaign add, yes it is.)
I am doing broadcast tonight, someone linked to it above but I did not subscribe in order to read it. The networks and the cable news networks seem reluctant to give it any airtime.
Here’s an article that quotes at least some of their heckles. According to this article, Boebert and Greene heckled Biden repeatedly throughout the speech. The quotes given here appear to be just a sampling.
Astonishingly, they also seem to say that Biden engaged with them, responding to some of their heckles.
Here’s another article about Boebert and Greene heckling. It repeats some of the same quotes as the above-linked Independent article. This article also includes a photo of B. and G. standing up at their seats with their pie-holes wide open, shouting. It is mentioned that others in the chamber booed them.
They also turned their backs on Biden when he entered.
It seems a couple of states have elected mean girls to congress. How they not both named Heather??
They are so sadly juvenile and small minded. They HOPE they get detention for making a scene during assembly. It adds to their street cred and sincerely compromises any support they have from serious minded people of any stripe.
What was the last state of the union address that had any meaningful consequences, good or bad? 2002 and the “axis of evil” (which cut off diplomacy with Iran and North Korea for a decade)?
Oh, they almost certainly wrote it well beforehand. To the extent that any of this matters (the whole pageant will probably be forgotten by noon), you don’t want to take a gift of network airtime and use it to talk about what the other party wants to talk about, you want to talk about your own stuff.
I must agree; he rushes his words at times, stammers at other times (yes, I know it’s a lifelong affliction. Yes, I appreciate that he had to overcome it to become a public speaker. It doesn’t change the fact that he doesn’t have a smooth delivery)
But I did like the speech. I really like the fact that he didn’t begin with the standard “the state of our union is strong”, especially when so many people don’t feel that way. Instead, it came at the end, as part of the best part of the speech (when he said the state of the union was strong because the people were strong), where he also proclaimed that we were doing better than we were a year ago, and we will be doing even better a year from now.
I think that Biden’s term will mirror Reagan’s first. Remember, Reagan begin his term with a recession, and was beset by high inflation and unemployment. But by 1984, it was “morning in America.” I predict a similar path in 2024.
Another quite forgettable Republican response. Maybe not as disastrous as Bobby Jindhal or Little Marco’s attempts to sneak sips of water but pretty lame all the same.
As for the silly bitches Heckle and Jekyll, they should be disinvited from any future SOTUs.
