On Tuesday, I got my first South Carolina quarter.
So did I.
Mrs. Pluto and I just barely got our Maryland quarter. I don’t expect to see South Carolina for a while yet. I wonder why it takes so long for them to turn up here? They must ship them all to one bank on the East Coast and they have to trickle down to Seattle one 7-11 at a time.
I did get a new $5 bill the other day (at the bank) but I haven’t seen the new $10 yet.
I’ll bet I meant Massachusetts, didn’t I?
Right after the Maryland quarters were released, every other quarter I got was one. It’s trickled down to about 1/3 of all quarters are a commemorative one, with some of the early ones harder to find.
We’re fairly close to Philadelphia and their mint, and the population density here probably facilitates the coins’ distribution. Denver’s quite a bit more isolated, so maybe that’s why the quarters aren’t distributed as fast out west.
FYI, I’ve looked at most of the state quarters I’ve received, and not one of them has been Denver-issued.
Do you suppose DC will just get a state nickle? It’s not quite a state.
The wife and I have managed to get a complete set of state quarters from each mint, up through MD, just by eyeballing our pocket change. (Haven’t seen SC yet.) If any of the DC/NC people are interested, I’ve got extras.
Nope. I meant Maryland after all.
What’s the scheduled date for Alaska?
I hope it’s not just another state outline.
Only a few look like real coins, the rest like Franklin Mint souvenirs.
They are being issued in the order in which the states joined the Union, so Seward’s Folly will be dead last. I think they’re coming out at the rate of five a year so Alaska’s quarter won’t appear until 2009.
There are websites out there showing upcoming designs. Most states have allowed citizens to submit designs and then vote on the finalists (although I think they let “people who really know about these things” make the ultimate decision). If you’re interested in participating in the design of the Alaska quarter you’ve probably still got time. <snicker>
Damn, I was hoping that they would put the Confederate Flag on our SC quaters.
Seward’s Folly will be next-to last, you mean. Our friends halfway across the Pacific will be seeing the series out. In 2008, they’ll be putting out the last five: Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii, the only states admitted in the twentieth century. It all makes me hope that a fifty-first state is admitted sometime before we finally say “aloha” to the last state quarter, just to throw a monkey wrench into the pat schedule of five quarters a year for ten years.
In any event, I got my first Maryland only two weeks ago, and I’m a mere five-hundred miles from Denver. (Stop laughing, This is the West we’re talking about.) I wonder how long South Carolina will take to get here.
I’m in South Carolina, and I just got the South Carolina quarter yesterday. Maryland took a long time to get here, but the others have been pretty quick to turn up.
However, and I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again…
I STILL have never seen a Sacajawea dollar coin! Where IS it already?!
Hey D, where in SC are you located? I’m in Rock Hill, but just moved here from Orangeburg.
Between my mom working at a bank, and me working at a grocery store…i see all the new money quick like.
I haven’t seen a Sacajawea coin yet either. I’m beginning to think that they are in the same leagues as a Yeti and Nessie.
Then again, I pay for everything with a credit card, so, therein, lays the problem.
In other coin news, I did get a Susan B. Anthony back in some change for fries (credit cards not accepted) . It was mistaken as a quarter. whoo hoo, I can retire early now, like 7pm.
I got the Sacajawea coins I have as change from the PO stamp machine.
I’m in Columbia. Nice to see another SC doper.
