We got about 12-13 inches in Olathe. Our house faces north, and is basically open to the north and east. The wind seemed to be swirling around the house such that the snowdrift on the front porch is nearly 2 feet tall. It will probably be April before we’ll be able to get out the front door, but at least it will keep the solicitors away.
Out in the back yard, the drifts on the back porch are up to the bottom of the yard chairs, about 15-18 inches.
I was home due to illness all week, but was working, so at least I was able to get paid. My poor wife, though, is a school bus driver, and she was off yesterday and today. She also got the pleasure of shoveling the foot of global warming off the driveway.
It sounds as if we are in for it again here in NE Kansas. From what I’ve heard there’s going to be another storm coming in tomorrow afternoon or evening.
Stay safe people. I attended the Kansas Silent Film Festival this weekend, at Washburn University, and some of the musical performers weren’t able to be there. The Monte Alto Motion Picture orchestra, from Boulder, Colorado, could only get as far as Hays, Kansas. Part of I-70 was still closed, and even if it had been open it would have been too dangerous. It was better to stay safe.
So, what are any of us Kansans doing for the sequel to the Blizzard of Oz?
Updated forecast has it hitting us anytime now, and continuing through Tuesday.
I’m grumpy about the expected 12 inches, but I’m worried about the rain/freezing rain preceding it. 12 inches of snow is a PiTA. 12 inches of snow atop an inch of ice is deadly.
Myself? I have a cupboard full of tea, piles of books, and a cat. I’m set, as long as the power doesn’t go out.
A friend sent us pics from their Hereford, TX ranch a little south of Amarillo. Holy crap, horizontal snow, drifts of 4 to 5 feet, ice covered pipe fence and white cattle. Most roads there were closed. I’m trying to imagine suffering through that in a teepee or a soddie.
