No it isn’t. If you have neither, just get Warband. The only thing you get with the original that you don’t get with Warband is the vanilla version’s campaign map (which wouldn’t be on my radar of things worth paying for); Warband adds a new faction, redraws the map, and adds a few other new features. The only possible reason you’d want the vanilla version in addition to Warband is if you really hate some of the new features they added.
I’ll give my endorsement for Warband. IMO $7.50 is a good deal (Steam says I’ve logged 78 hours of play between the two versions). Skip the original, though; it’s just a slightly less complete version of Warband.
Thanks for this heads-up, I’m DL’ing it now.
We ended up getting a group buy of warband done. We’re still sitting at 5/8 for just cause 2, if you’re still interested contact me. If it doesn’t happen, it’ll probably be on a significant sale for Christmas anyway.
I’m on windows 7 so there’s no problem.
A warning for warband, it seems that steam ran out of keys (or something…) so you can only play the trial for now even if you buy it.
Fortunately the trial lets you play to level 7 which is a pretty long time, and it will hopefully be resolved before anyone gets that far.
Seems like a really fun game so far, though. I suggest you check the difficulty in the options and maybe bump it up a little - it defaults to really, really easy settings and never mentions you can (and probably should) change that.
Ok, last day of sales I think
Metro 2033 $10
Indie Air Pack (altitude, dogfighter, flotilla, gratuitous space battles, plain sight) $5
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition $2.50
Peggle Deluxe $5
Star Wars KOTOR $2.50
Dirt 2 $5
Aliens vs Predator $6.80
Mafia 2 $37.50
Beat Hazard $2.50
Gift packs
Trine 8 pack $20 ($2.50 per)
AVP 6 pack $30 ($5 per)
World of Goo 12 pack $20 ($1.66 per)
Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West 10 pack $20 ($2 per)
Lots of good stuff today. You filthy bastards who don’t have dirt 2 by now should get it for $5. Most fun racing game ever and we just started having regular SDMB games again. I get a lot of “blah racing games” from people but I wasn’t that into racing games either before I got dirt 2 and had a blast anyway. We play with a few people who are all “bah humbug!” towards racing games and play dirt 2 anyway. As long as you have some sort of analog controller - gamepad, wheel, joystick, whammy bar on a guitar hero controller! something! you’ll probably have fun with it. You could play with the keyboard of course but… blah. Anyway, we’ve been getting a weekly game together and having fun with it, so join us.
That indie pack is a great deal, with at least 3 of those games (altitude, dogfighter, GSB) being worth the $5 by themselves.
KOTOR I haven’t gotten around to playing yet but people seem to love it. The monkey island game is one of the remakes telltale did and is priced well there.
I’ll do a 6 pack of AVP if people are interested - we’d only be saving $1.80 per person but if we’re all gonna get it anyway we might as well save. I’ll be gone until later but contact me if you’re interested.
I forgot the package deals. I like Lead and Gold a lot, it’s a lot of fun - if you can somehow organize 10 people, it’s easily worth $2 per - or just splurge and gift it around to random people if you want, that’s what I did with an osmos pack yesterday.
Same for Trine and World of Goo - all of those games are good - grab a pack for $20 and pass them around to your friends. It’s a pretty cost effective way to make people happy.
I ended up grabbing Dirt 2 after all; couldn’t say no to it at that price.
KOTOR is pretty good. I’ve already got it, but I’d recommend it for anyone who likes a good (fairly railroaded) RPG.
Cool, add me to your friends list on steam then and I’ll tell you when we’re organizing games. Looks like we’ve got 4 or 5 new SDMB players with a few maybes. Since we already had enough people to fill an 8 player game on occasion this should result in frequent full games.
I guess the gifting theme of this sale worked, because tallying it up I only spent a bit under $40 for myself but ended up sending out $52 in gifts. I did receive some gifts too.
Speaking of which, does anyone think they’d enjoy osmos? I have a few extra copies.
I would enjoy it. It seems like a clever game.
How much is it?
I assume it would be free, as he said he has a few extra copies. Presumably from buying a gift pack specifically so he can give away free copies.
Any Dopers want World of Goo?
Well I’m obviously hoping for free but being polite in case that wasn’t his intent.
Steam is really annoying me right now. It works but it says I am offline and a game I preordered that is being released today has vanished from my games list.
Reading on Somethingawful it looks like I’m not the only one so at least I can hope that this will be cleared up soon. It’s also pretty funny to look at the Steam online graph as there is a huge downturn about six hours ago so clearly servers have crashed or something.
Edit: Of course after I post this Steam comes online for me.
Darkhold, it used to be said that posting your problem to this message board would fix your problem. There was a whole thread about it but I can’t seem to find it.
One night with whoever you hold most dear.
heh no kidding. I had fussed around with it for nearly an hour and nothing. I post here and 2 mins later it’s fine.
